iPhone 16 Pro update to iOS 27 stuck at 'Update requested'

Hello,

I’m attempting to install iOS 27 on an iPhone 16 Pro currently running iOS 26.6.1. The device is connected to Wi‑Fi and has 188 GB of free storage. Both iOS 26.7 and iOS 27 appear as available updates. When I initiate the update, the system displays “Update requested”, but the process never transitions to the download or verification phase. The device remains stuck in this state indefinitely. I interrupted the process by disconnecting Wi‑Fi, removed the incomplete update package shown in iPhone Storage, performed a full shutdown and reboot, and repeated the procedure. The behaviour is identical: the update request is issued, but the update pipeline does not progress. Does anyone have technical suggestions for resolving this issue?

The most likely cause of this issue is a conflict in the update queue because both iOS 26.7 and iOS 27 are showing as available. When the system tries to register the update request with Apple's servers, the dual availability can cause a stall in the update pipeline.

To resolve this, you need to clear the stalled queue and force the device to register a single, clean path.

1. Update to iOS 26.7 First

Since the jump directly to a new major version (iOS 27) is stalling, installing the final minor update of your current cycle usually clears the pipeline.

Select and install iOS 26.7 first.
Once iOS 26.7 is successfully installed, go back to Software Update. The dual-path option will be gone, leaving only iOS 27, which should now download normally.

It’s the same with updating to iOS 26.7. “Update requested” and that’s it. No further action.
