Worst case, up to 20-25 GB of free space to download and install. Probably less on an iPhone 12

Less space is also required if you connect your iPhone to a Mac or PC and run the update that way. Recommended.

Maybe you think about holding off on iOS 27 until you are ready for a new phone.....as lobsterghost1 points out.

I have yet to meet the first person who ever regretted buying too much storage.

I agree that the idea of staying on iOS 26 is quite sound.

I upgraded my iPhone SE 2nd Gen 64GB yesterday (also a non-AI model). I find very few differences between 26 and 27. In fact, I am still looking!

The v27 download was 10.68GB and my iOS + System total went up about 3GB. As I have iPads and Mac computers I do not need my phone for much more the a comm device. I still have 31 GB free out of 64 GB capacity, but I seem to be the exception.

And yes, I am shopping for newer phones for us.

I can tell you that on my iPhone 17 Pro Max, iOS takes up 16.25 GB. But all of iOS on my device which is capable of Apple Intelligence takes up a whopping 31.97 GB. Your phone isn't capable of Apple Intelligence, so iOS should be similar in size to what you currently have.

If I were you though, I'd give SERIOUS consideration to upgrading your iPhone. 64 GB just isn't enough in today's world. No new iPhone sold by Apple today comes with less than 256 GB to start. And for the last few years, I've been only buying my new iPhones with 512 GB. No one ever came here and said, their iPhone has too much storage, but daily people come here saying their iPhone doesn't have enough. Sadly, people don't give enough thought to their storage needs when buying a new iPhone.

On my SE3, Liquid glass slider is all I found and it's called Appearance. Thats all I found in 3 months of testing.
