iPhone 14 Camera app Aspect Ratio greyed out in Portrait mode after iOS 27

I recently updated my iPhone 14 to iOS 27 and noticed an issue with the Camera app.

In Photo mode, the Aspect Ratio option works normally, and I can switch between the available ratios.

However, in Portrait mode, when I go to Camera Controls → Edit, the Aspect option is visible but greyed out and cannot be selected.

Has anyone else noticed this on iOS 27? Is the Aspect Ratio option supposed to be disabled in Portrait mode now, or is this a bug?

As I recall, the iPhone 15 was the first to use Lidar for depth information and Portrait mode. Apple would have had to change the image pipeline to accomplish all this and may have not extended aspect ratios to iPhone 14. This would really be a question for Apple engineering at this point, unless a community member with a different user experience has additional features and options.

You're welcome to contact Apple support with your questions and ask for an escalation to engineering. I'd give it a few weeks due to the release of iOS 27 and the new iPhones on Friday. I suspect support will be swamped, but you never know. You can also provide feedback via the link below,

Thanks Jeff. I’ve attached a screenshot showing the Aspect option greyed out on my iPhone 14. It’s available and works normally in Photo mode, but in Portrait mode it’s disabled.

I also checked on my iPhone 15, and the Aspect Ratio option is available in Portrait mode there.

I’m pretty sure I was able to change the aspect ratio in Portrait mode on the iPhone 14 before updating to iOS 27.

Thanks Jeff. I don’t have documentation to confirm it, but I believe the iPhone 14 had the option to change the aspect ratio in Portrait mode. I can also confirm that the iPhone 15 does have the Aspect Ratio selector in Portrait mode. That’s why I’m wondering if this may have changed with iOS 27 rather than being a limitation of the iPhone 14. The fact that Aspect is still shown in the controls but is greyed out also makes me wonder if something changed in the software.
