Deactivate apple intelligence

It's off by default on macOS 27. You need to apply to get it and be placed on a waiting list before you do.

If you have not done any of this, then it is not active yet, so there is nothing to turn off.

For other built in features that use it in some way, just don't use them.

The support document provided by MrHoffman only applies to Tahoe, it does not apply to macOS 27 Golden Gate.

No, it only runs when you use features that make use of it. Like certain functions in the Photos app, when wiring etc...

Siri AI won't at all run unless you activate it in Settings first, and then only when you actually use the Siri AI option in the OS.

System Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri > Apple Intelligence > Off

update on the fix I posted. It "does" work. Unfortunately after you reboot or re-login.....MacOS 27 starts quietly reinstalling the deleted Apple Intelligence files. Within an hour or so......back up to mid 20ish GBs. I had Siri completely turned off and am not currently on the Siri Ai beta list. There might be a fix out there but for me....it was just easier to go back to Sequoia and restore files with Time Machine. Besides, there were some other issues with 27 I was experiencing as well. Going back to the "if it ain't broke....don't fix it." approach to OS upgrades.

I really hope Apple doesn't continue down the Microsoft road of forced features that are intentionally made very difficult to turn off or manage.

Long time Sequoia holdover here. Skipped Tahoe (26) because, 1) MacOS wasn't broken....my current OS was awesome. 2) I'd been keeping track of issues and complaints about Tahoe. However with Golden Gate I figured it was time to modernize.....given my profession. Also the reviews on 27 were positive enough to take the plunge.

The toggle is gone...yes. Found many articles on how to disable it Hal9000 ...erm "Apple Intelligence" features...yes. Only problem was that none worked. Your post seems to confirm what i was starting to figure....It's not on yet because i'm not even on the waitlist for Siri Ai....and even in Screen Time the settings are frozen as Siri is off on my machine. Even with Siri on....still disabled because it says "Try Siri Ai" which if clicked....asks to join the wait list. Cancelled that.

My one concern though is after upgrading to GG.....I got a-lot of notifications about extensions added to many of my programs/apps. So I'm still not sure. Seems silly that Apple removed the **** toggle!

It is a mess....because there is no singular "off switch". No need to keep posting links. Been there.

example:

1.Click Siri.

2.Change Siri to Siri Classic.

This is not an option for a MacOS user after upgrading to GG..... because one either chooses "not now" after upgrade where the OS asks if you want to set up Siri.....and if you do set it up...the default is "try Siri-Ai"

Sorry, you can’t. Realize you don’t own the software that runs on your Apple device. You only have a license to use it as Apple sees fit. You can't do what you want with it because you don't own it.

The only way to regain the space is to downgrade back to your previous version of macOS and that’s not a simple task.

If you change Siri Language to a different one from your system and turn it off and then back on and restart your machine it should be Apple Intelligence free and you can recover the space taken by it. It worked for me. I'm on Macos 27 Golden Gate

You are wrong - I'm on macOS 27 (macBook M3 max) and have / had Siri disabled while it was introduced on my MacBook. And it still shows Siri disabled in "System Settings -> Siri", but, TGOnDeviceInferenceProviderService still running as per Activity Monitor. And that is one of "Apple Intelligence" services. So, I NEVER enabled it and don't want it to be run or use. About "Screen Time -> Content & Privacy -> Siri" it just grayed out at "Siri AI (Beta)", so as I understand there there is no way to change it? So, looks like the way to disable Apple AI / Siri is first to enable it and disable again ?

you know...no offense....but you sound a-lot like an Ai-bot. It also seems like you’re more interested in sounding correct than helping. I already got a valid response from another more informed poster. I only responded to your original comment because it was simply wrong when it came to settings in MacOS 27 GG vs. say IOS 27 or IPadOS 27.

Yep, my original post here was based on the footer and not on the text.

The lack of a global off switch is irritating. As I find more info about an off switch, I update.

Go to this link and watch the video. I can confirm this worked on my own machine after upgrading to MacOS 27.

I had 29 GB portioned out for Apple Intelligence despite it not being activated yet. After following the video's instructions.....I can live with it taking up 18.7 MBs. :-p

And if that happens you literally won't have anywhere to go. Best to learn to live with it in the modern age of AI. You can’t stop it. You can’t delete it. You are already using it. Anytime you ask a question on the internet you are using AI whether you want to or not.
