Can't upgrade from Monterey

That depends on what year your Mini is. The Mini switched to Apple Silicon in Nov 2020. if your Mini is earlier then it has an Intel CPU and cannot update to the latest version of macOS 27 Golden Gate.

So tell us what model year your Mini is and we’ll tell you how far up you can upgrade. If it’s a 2018 model you can update to macOS 15 Sequoia. if it’s 2014 or earlier you are as far as you can go with macOS 12.7.6 Monterey.

Macs don't run iOS (the iPhone operating system). They run macOS.

If you have a

• Mac mini (Late 2014) – macOS 12.* (Monterey) is the end of the line
• Mac mini (2018) – macOS 15.* (Sequoia) is the end of the line

All Apple Silicon-based Mac minis can run macOS 27.* (Golden Gate). These include

• Mac mini (M1, 2020)
• Mac mini (2023) – with M2 or M2 Pro chip
• Mac mini (2024) – with M4 or M4 Pro chip
• The just-released M6 and M5 Pro Mac minis

Mac minis released before Late 2014 are not compatible with Monterey, so if your Mac mini is running Monterey and Software Update is not offering you any later version, that would strongly suggest that you have a Late 2014 model. There are some useful applications whose current versions support Monterey (such as Firefox and LibreOffice), but you might also want to consider replacing that nearly 12-year-old Mac mini with a current one.

If your Mac mini is a 2014 model, because its CPU isn't powerful enough; this isn't upgradable. Otherwise, it depends on what happens when you try to upgrade it.
