It says right in the Settings after you join the waitlist that the roll out is gradual. That gives Apple time to assess the demand to servers and allocate more if necessary. Could you imagine the uproar if every time someone went to access the new Siri that the servers crashed resulting in an error message?

The same waitlist was used when Apple Intelligence was launched and that has long been forgotten. I expect eventually you won't hear another thing about a waitlist with Siri AI, just like it is a non-issue for Apple Intelligence now.

As for the OP's question, absolutely it is normal to be waiting at least 24 hours, for me it took 3 days.

I joined the waitlist Tuesday evening. It's now Friday afternoon, and the following notification appeared on my Mac:

"Siri AI Is Ready: Now with powerful capabilities, rich conversations, and a dedicated app."

I usually turn my Mac off in the evening so the house and my cat can have an uninterrupted night's sleep.

It's a mystery as to why there is a waitlist at all.

Some people suggest that, if you can, leaving your device powered on and connected to Wifi might get you an earlier delivery, but outside of Apple, nobody knows for sure.

If you're on the waitlist, hold steady—that's how you play this waiting game. Good luck!
