Siri AI (iPad OS, iOS, MacOS 27) seemingly needs an internet connection for basic functionality that was previously achievable offline?
Specifically,
Dictating to Siri to simply add a reminder with a time needs internet now.
The phrase used "Siri, add a reminder at 6:00pm tomorrow to get groceries"
- On iPhone 15 (iOS 27) without apple intelligence, this works exactly as intended and is able to be used offline. Reminder scheduled for the correct time.
- On M4 iPad Pro 13 (iPadOS 27) with SIRI AI we need an internet connection.
-With Airplane mode and Wifi disabled - "to do that, you'll need to turn off Airplane mode"
-With Airplane mode enabled, and Wifi disabled - "I'm having trouble with the connection. Please try again later."
Siri AI is fully downloaded from what I can see, and the space on device has remained the same at 6.6gb for a day now (plugged in, charging).
Can't find anyone else mentioning this, but for me it's a big regression and makes it unusable.
Isn't this what the on-device neural engine is for? Older, non 'apple intelligence' iPhone is able to accomplish simple tasks, better, and offline - while modern Neural Processor can do more, but needs to connect to the internet for nearly everything, such as when Siri was first introduced...
According to apples own Siri AI, this shouldn't be the case as that's the whole point of on-device processing. However, also according to Siri AI, it doesn't know why this is happening.
