AppleCare+ Refusal in France: Denied for "Milk & Sugar" spill, Executive told me to go to a 3rd party??
Hi everyone,
I am facing a really confusing and frustrating situation with AppleCare+ in France and I want to see if anyone else has experienced this, or if this is even legal/normal behavior from Apple.
A few days ago, I accidentally spilled coffee with milk and sugar on my MacBook. Since I pay for AppleCare+ (the premium paid insurance plan), I wasn't too panicked because the official terms state that accidental "liquid contact" is explicitly covered under the ADH (Accidental Damage from Handling) tier.
However, when I brought it in, the Apple representatives told me that because the liquid contained milk and sugar, the Mac is considered entirely "unrepairable" and therefore not eligible for repair or replacement under AppleCare+. They basically refused to honor the warranty and turned me away.
I immediately escalated the issue to Apple Executive Support. The executive I spoke with told me:
- He is "not a technician and can't promise anything."
- He suggested that I should take my Mac to a third-party repair shop to have them remove the milk and sugar residue before Apple would deal with it.
I am shocked. If I take my Mac to an unauthorized third-party shop to be opened and cleaned, Section 5 of the AppleCare+ contract explicitly states my warranty will be voided entirely for "unauthorized modification." It feels like I am being handed a trap to intentionally void my policy.
Furthermore, the French AppleCare+ Conditions Générales (Article 4.1) state that if a device experiences liquid damage and is deemed "unrepairable" by technicians, Apple's legal remedy is to exchange the equipment for a replacement product under the standard deductible fee (€259 in France for Mac). The contract does not say "we replace it unless it's sticky."
My questions to the community:
- Has anyone else with AppleCare+ been denied service specifically because a spill contained milk, sugar, juice, or wine?
- Is it normal for an Apple Executive Relations advisor to tell a customer to go to a third-party shop?
- How can I get them to stop treating this as a standard warranty issue and force them to honor the actual AppleCare+ insurance policy I paid for?
