That usually means the family hasn’t been moved to the iOS 27 parental controls yet.

Apple says every device in the Family Sharing group has to be on version 27 or later before the redesigned Screen Time controls become available. Check Settings > Family > View Family Devices and see whether anything still needs updating.

Once everything is updated, go back to Settings > Family. The family organizer or parent/guardian should see Get Started to review and update the existing parental controls.

If even one device can’t be updated, Apple says the family can continue using the older iOS 26-style Screen Time controls instead.

So did you have a child account in the family share? Account for a child age 13 years or less?

or are they teen accounts you removed to completely remove family share and rebuild?

i wanted to do the nuclear option too - but couldn’t remove the child account from family share. Apple make that permanently tied to a family. So there is some way a child account can be moved to another family. But it all sounds too complicated for me!!!

No, they haven’t. We have a couple of legacy devices. I feel like this is just a stupid ploy by Apple to force us to buy replacements when we don’t need them. I see the other people have made it work. I’m not spending an entire day trying to find the loop poles to make this happen. It’s making me hate Apple a little more every single day. I can pay Verizon $10 a month for the ability to freeze my child’s phone. I’m sorry, but it seems ridiculous to gate keep.
