iPad battery percentage display option missing after iPadOS 27 update

After updating my iPad to the newest iPadOS 27, I noticed that the battery percentage is inside of battery icon.

I decided to look into the settings but there isn’t an option to put percentage next to the icon like it was in iPadOS 26.

I don’t like when digits are inside the battery, it is less readable especially when charged section passes through the digit. Or when the iPad is charging it is hard to read on green background.

So why we don’t have an option to choose in the settings, how we want to print percentage inside or outside of icon. On iPad there is more than enough space to put percentage separately.

Maybe in the next updates Apple will return the possibility to use battery percentage the way it was previously. At least as an option in settings, for those who liked the old style.

You are not the first - and are unlikely to be the last - to comment upon (and dislike) the repositioning of the battery charge percentage to within the charging graphic icon. Arguably, this change introduced with iPadOS 27 does significantly detract from legibility/readability of the battery status on the larger screen of an iPad.

While visual design changes to software are inevitable, Apple does invite submission of constructive comments and feature requests via its Product Feedback portal.

If you would like to request that Apple reconsider this change and return the iPad battery status to its previous visual elements - or request that this becomes a configuration setting in a future release of iPadOS - this would be the most appropriate channel through which to make your request:

Feedback - iPad - Apple

You are unlikely to receive a personal reply, however, it is our understanding that all feedback is logged, analysed and forwarded to the appropriate team(s) for consideration. If a sufficient number of similar requests are submitted, it is quite possible that Apple will implement change - as has previously occurred with Apple's contentious Liquid Glass transparency.

Every request matters. If you would like to see change, it is in your own best interest to add your voice via the Feedback Portal.

iPadOS 27 has indeed changed the method by which the battery change percentage is displayed.

Prior to iPadOS 27, the battery charge percentage, if enabled in iPad settings, was shown adjacent to the graphical representation of battery state at top-right of the screen.

As you correctly observe, iPadOS 27 changes the battery charge presentation to show the percentage within the battery graphic - this arguably being visually less clear than before. This visual change replicates and is fully consistent with the battery status indicator seen on iPhone in both the current and prior versions of iOS.

This behaviour is not configurable.
