Any hope for me to carry on playing WoW - Diablo 3 - Warcraft 3 Reforged - Diablo 4 with my many close friends?

Apple this is a 2 part question.

1) I've just sent this to Microsoft Blizzard...

"I'm 49 years old now and a disabled gamer and a Mac user. I've been playing Warcraft 3 since I was 15 then WoW then Diablo 3 and Warcraft 3 Reforged all on Mac for over 30 years I've so many close friends in Warcraft and Diablo... I even play Diablo 4 on my Mac via Crossover and I've literally spent thousands upon thousands future-proving my Mac Pros over the years. Warcraft and Diablo are my life really. I dont care about WoW Classic but is it true that from 2027 onwards you are stopping me from playing Warcraft 3: Reforged - World of Wracraft Retail - Diablo 3 with my friends via my Mac after 30+ Years? And if so than is there any Mac workaround because Window drives me nuts I cant use it. Please dont end my gaming life and dont make me loose my friends.... Even if I cant play after World of Warcraft: The Last Titan could you preserver every Mac thing thats come before? Please Microsoft Blizzard dont say its true and please dont be this heartless there must be a way?"

Apple is this true?

2) At first I wasn't worried as I thought I could use Crossover 26 but Crossover uses Rosetta which I hear Apple is dropping support for in 2027. Is there any way at all or a workaround for me to use Crossover or anything so I can carry on playing Warcraft and Diablo with my friends? I just need a bit of hope.

Thanks

Kain

As long as you don't use macOS 28+, then you can continue using your games until those games no longer support the older operating systems. Keep in mind that many third party developers will only support the three most recent versions of macOS (occasionally the fourth recent OS will still be supported as well for part of the year).

Your beef is actually with Blizzard and any other third party game developers because it is up to them to support their products on macOS. Unfortunately most game developers focus on Windows and various dedicated game consoles. I've never considered macOS to be a gaming platform. Yes, from time to time over the years third party game developers may release their games for macOS (or contracted a third party to develop a macOS port ....many times the online component was not fully compatible with the Windows version)....with real actual macOS native support.

CrossOver, WINE, Proton, and others are all third party community efforts (aka hacks) to take a Windows app and allow it to run on another non-Windows OS. This is and always has been a hack job with varying degrees of success & reliability. It is great when it works, but it tends to break from time to time. Much more so with Apple hardware & macOS where Apple has no interest in maintaining such compatibility hacks. Consider all such hacks as "use at your own risk" especially if you are buying software on an unsupported system & you don't have a compatible Windows system to fall back to.

FYI, I've dealt with these issues for Linux systems since 2000 (I already owned the software and wanted to migrate completely to Linux so I didn't have to dual boot.....dual booting was the only reliable way to play those Windows only games). I later got a games console to get away from the constant hardware upgrades and DRM hacks & root kits the game publishers & developers were putting onto my computer so I could ditch Windows completely.

You need to provide your feedback to Blizzard and Microsoft who currently owns Blizzard.

Update... I've just heard from Crossover and now I'm even more confused as they said this and I quote...

"Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to us with your issue. While Apple has announced they are dropping support for Rosetta, they have ensured us that it's something that will still be available to us. Further, we are working on our Arm build and have actually released a test version of it. This won't require Rosetta to be able to continue running games. While our Arm Version of Crossover Preview is still being worked on, it should give you the confidence that Crossover will continue working on MacOS even after they drop support. You can actually download the native Arm build of Crossover Preview right now if you'd like to take a look at it (although for right now there are still issues with it). Hopefully this will bring you some comfort about the future! Let me know if you have any questions about all of this.

Regards,

Codeweavers Support"

Is this hope guys?

we are not apple

these forums are user helping other users like yourself, it's sort of going to a physical apple store and asking other customers their advice

This is a user helping users with tech questions forum, we are not apple and apple do not read your posts here

noone here can have any insight as to if blizzard are planning to make their games avaible for the apple m(x) arm cpu based platform when apple stop supporting the older intel stuff

Thanks but not using macOS 28+ is not an option as eventually I wont able to do anything on my Mac. and being disabled I dont have the money or the room for a Mac Pro and a Gaming PC. I need tons of SSD Storage so I always buy Mac Pro's as they are a tower you can upgrade everything as I work with movies and music too so a PC would be ****. Years ago when Apple said they were working on gaming on Mac Pro's my 4 priorities were. Most biggest Graphics Card that I can fit in - Enough RAM - The most PCIe Cards I can fit in for SSD's - and 2 HDMI's and a extra row of USB's so I has this Mac.

2023 Mac Pro

Apple M2 Ultra with 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU, 32‑core Neural Engine

64GB unified memory

Main Mac Storage 8TB SSD

With Two Separate PCIe Cards Storage 24TB SSD for Movies & Video (24TB per PCIe Card, so 48TB in all)

Now I’m running macOS Golden Gate 27.0

When CrossOver came out along with Apple's wants for Gaming I knew I was set for years and years. I'm sorry to ask to ask again but I have Mild ADHD. Why is Apple dropping Rosetta again? As I thought Rosetta was to be as easy / universal as possible? Not only I use Rosetta for Crossover games, but as I'm disabled I use iPhone Apps on my Mac ie TV Remotes and other remotes which need Rosetta. My Mac's easier to use than my iPhone due to my hand. So unless Apple want to limit what they want people do do with their Macs - Are Apple working on a even better Rosetta which could lead me onto this email Blizzard sent me, is there hope as they said Apple are working on it?

I quote...

"Greetings Lloyd. Game Master Scoelvoenk here at your service, ready to stand by your side.

I want to thank you so much for your incredible patience while waiting to reach us today. We have had a massive influx of heroes entering the queue, and we are working as fast as our mounts can carry us to make sure every single player gets the care they deserve.

Hearing your story honestly touches my heart. Over thirty years of adventures across Azeroth and Sanctuary is a legendary journey, and the bonds you have built with your close friends in Warcraft and Diablo are truly irreplaceable. As a gamer, these worlds are your home, and I completely understand how deeply important it is to keep your Mac Pro battle station running smoothly. Please know that we see you, we value you, and we absolutely do not want to see your gaming life or your friendships cut short.

I have some reassuring news that should help ease your mind about the future. We are absolutely not choosing to abandon our Mac players or heartlessly cutting off your access to World of Warcraft Retail, Warcraft 3: Reforged, or Diablo 3.

What is actually happening is that Apple has upcoming changes planned for macOS that may affect how applications like Battle.net run on certain Mac computers. This is something coming directly from Apple's side, rather than a decision made by us at Blizzard. However, you do not need to take any action right now. We are already actively investigating and planning for these macOS updates because your games and the Battle.net App are still fully supported.

For the full details on what Apple is changing, you can look at the official Apple Support Article: Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

If you eventually install macOS 27 Golden Gate and find that your Battle.net App isn't functioning quite right, you can follow these specific troubleshooting steps to get things back on track: https://eu.support.blizzard.com/en/help/article/000386595

We want to keep you in the fight for many years to come, Lloyd. Thank you again for reaching out to us today. If any other questions arise or if you ever need another guiding light, we are always here to lend a hand and welcome you back.

May your blades never dull and your loot always be epic,

Game Master Scoelvoenk

Blizzard Entertainment"

Lastly I'm still waiting on a reply from Crossover but I dont really know what to do as Apples new upcoming Gaming Mac is too small the fit in the extra PCIe SSD's and would the next Mac Pro even do what I need? Sorry I guess I'm lost and confused

Any hope for me to carry on playing WoW - Diablo 3 - Warcraft 3 Reforged - Diablo 4 with my many close friends?
