Hearing aid streaming no longer works correctly after 26.6 update

The streaming controls have disappeared from my hearing aids.

This usually happened whenever I had an app open taking over the audio but the controls would come back after shutting it down. Then after updating to 26.6, when that app was closed, the streaming controls were still gone. And any noise did this (like an alert badge). Shutting down every app doesn't solve the problem. The only way to get the controls back is to restart the phone.

I also tried using the resound app. It says "accessories are unavailable while streaming audio"

This sounds like a nuisance, but I work from home and I rely on hearing aid streaming for my job. This is causing my audio to randomly cut out in the middle of meetings. It's one of the worst things that could happen to me.

Yes, it shows up until this problem happens.

I was able to upgrade to iOS 27 after clearing some space (50% of my phone's space is taken up by "system files" so I wasn't able to do it earlier). This looks like it solved the issue. 26.6 and 26.7 are broken.

After many software updates, you may need to un-pair and re-pair your hearing aids.

I just updated by iPhone to iOS 27, and was surprised to find a brand new version of the Smart-3D App was pushed to the phone right afterward. Mine is now version 1.43.2

if you need to seek help from GN Resound or Apple, updating to the latest version(s) of software will be the first thing they ask for -- no one wants to spend time and energy debugging an issue that has already been seen and possibly solved.

This issue is 100% a software bug. It was occurring due to system sounds like alerts popping up.

The resound app allows me to select my mini mic until something triggers the issue. Then it goes to "accessories and auracast are unavailable while streaming audio" and stays like this until I restart my phone.

I had another divergent thought in the shower this morning. Do you have any Wi-Fi devices nearby? Could you be getting interference from them?

while I was composing with the Home Screen open, an alert came in. It changed the display to Streaming, sent the sound, then changed back to All-Around, the setting I had a moment ago,

From your description, it sounds like yours is getting stuck on Streaming.

It's the other way around. Once it streams from the phone, it can't stream from other resound devices. That's normal, but when the phone stops streaming it should give the control back to the hearing aids to stream from other resound devices. What's happening now is that it's basically locking into the phone until I restart it.

I use a Resound mini mic to connect to my computer's audio during meetings. That's what I need to work and isn't.

I have the same issue with the TV streamer, but that one isn't critical for work.

I have a TV streamer, when I use it, it shows up at the top of the diagram I posted, as TV/Micro/Mult.

That implies its data are being sent Direct to the hearing Aids, NOT through the phone.

Does the resound Mini Mic show up the same place in that diagram?

I've tried that. I've also tried updating to 26.7, disabling system sounds, and setting audio routing to "always hearing devices"
