Help with brand new phone lockout! Yes I bought it at the Apple store.

Help with lockout. I had an iphone 13 and yesterday I went to the Apple store in Georgetown and bought a new iphone 17. But I put in the apple password incorrectly and it locked me out. It said I had to wait an hour. So I walked around and came back to the store. The sales gal then tried to do it for me. She did it wrong and now it locked me out for 24 hours! She said I would get a message when it was ok to try again but I have not gotten a message and I leave for 8 weeks in Europe on Monday. My old phone has the apps all working. My new phone has the message/email working but not the apps. I am terrified to push a wrong button and get locked out even longer.

The 24-hour lockout you are experiencing is Apple's built-in security delay, which usually triggers when someone tries to reset a password or sign in from an unfamiliar device (like your brand-new iPhone 17) too many times.

Since the lockout happened yesterday, your 24-hour window should expire sometime today.

Leave the iPhone 17 alone until the exact time the second lockout occurred yesterday.
Once the screen clears and allows an entry, do not guess the password. If you aren't 100% sure of it, use your old iPhone 13 to change it first. You can change your password safely on a trusted device by going to Settings > [Your Name] > Sign-In & Security > Change Password.

That is great info! One question: I also have an apple laptop. Can I change it on that like now or does it start the whole thing over again?
