iPhone 18 pro max cellular issues

New iPhone can’t make or receive phone calls or FaceTimes. Text messages are extremely slow to come through. I can call someone and their phone rings. When they answer it they can’t hear me. On my phone it still says calling, even if the other person hangs up and ends the call it still says calling. It does this with WiFi turned off… it does all of this even when the phone is showing 4 bars of 5G+… then the phone randomly drops service and goes into SOS.

The other part to the problem is that I can use everything else on the phone.. I can use the internet and safari/google, Facebook, Snapchat, Chat GPT etc.. But can’t do any phone calls or FT, and messages are slow to send and receive.

EXTREMELY frustrating situation given that my job is highly highly dependent on being able to receive phone calls as I am on call 7 days a week.

is anyone else experiencing this with the new iPhone 18’s???

I activated my 18 Pro Max on 9/19 and started having the same issue as the OP on 9/22.

After multiple calls with AT&T and five different eSIM activations, the issue persisted. AT&T tech support created two separate backend tickets, but closed them the next day with this message: "AT&T Free Msg: The network ticket we filed for you is closed. Everything looks good on our end. For indoor specific issues connect to Wi-Fi."

Today, 9/25, I took the phone to the Apple Store. Staff ran an RF diagnostic test, which failed to complete. The Apple team ordered a replacement device, which should arrive for pickup in three to five days.

I have the exact same issue only discovered yesterday. I got a hold of an AT&T Tech and he mentioned like in this community there have been a few reports of this and they are working to solve the problem. He tried a reset of my phone while I rebooted. He was actually able to call me back but couldn't hear me at first and then could and then the call dropped. I was able to make a Phone call after but then others failed. Like all of you I am seeing connectivity to the network with some spottiness and going to SOS, but for the most part seems connected with wi-fi, texting and the like working but Voice only working with Wifi Calling enabled. Still hard to tell if it is Network, Hardware or other issue. Ultimately I have not been able to get back in touch with AT&T.

YES!! It goes off and on at will. Sometimes I get an SOS message at the top. Called Apple and the guy said he didn’t know if there was a fix coming.

weird, because AT&T said thousands of people are having this issue and Apple says a fix is coming “some time” this week.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING AND FRUSTRATING

SAME!!! Every text that I try to send it says it failed to deliver. It’s so annoying. I tried the safari on my phone and didn’t work but when I tried it on my moms 17 pro I worked perfectly. Same with other apps

If you're on AT&T, you'll have to wait for them to resolve their issues. Supposedly a fix is coming from them in 24 - 48 hours. It's NOT an Apple issue.

I had to select Mobile Resource Inspector and ran diagnostic test at home by myself. No needed to go to Apple Store for me, so skipping trip to my city's Penn Square Mall entirely to save time. Results says Cellular Baseband and Cellular RF passed tests, so my iPhone 18 Pro Max should works fine on AT&T network without dropping to SOS.

I'm T-Mobile user (formerly AT&T user until summer 2024). Your iPhone 18 Pro Max that keeping dropping to SOS on AT&T should get results that says Cellular Baseband and Cellular RF failed tests when you go to diagnostic test and chose Mobile Resource Inspector.

Same thing happening to me! Not able to make or receive calls unless on WiFi. Nothing works right. I’ve been to the at&t store 10 times! No one can help me and the representatives at the store on Georgia st are rude af & clueless! Sent me to Best Buy to the geek squad that was no help! This is ridiculous! No phone service since I got the 18 pro max Friday!!! eSIM was reset 5 times with no luck! I wish I had never gotten this phone & kept my 16 pro max!!! AT&T is my provider.. geek squad suggested I change providers! Been with AT&T since 2008!! Evidently that means nothing. & to get through to a human is next to impossible calling 611!!

3 times tech support wants me to reset my phone then they can’t call back. Then I have to start all over again. Bout to lose my sh*t over here!

I’ve seen tons of reports that its happening on ALL carriers. And my iPhone 14PM is working perfectly, with *no* dropped connections ever - side by side with the connection-dropping 18PM, on that same carrier.

i don’t have WiFi - so I wonder if its all the AI data exchange over-saturating the connection, making the 18’s modem declare error condition & internally restart? IDK - if it’s that, they’re gonna have to add some buffering or declare these phones need WiFi for full functionality.

i’m returning my 18PM. I need a dependable connection more than bells & whistles. I’ll get a nice digital camera with the refund.
