Inconsistent Delete key placement on Hebrew and Yiddish iPhone keyboards

Why does Apple’s strict design consistency stop at the Hebrew and Yiddish keyboards, with Delete placed in the least convenient position?

The Hebrew and Yiddish iPhone keyboards have a strange layout inconsistency that makes switching between keyboards unnecessarily confusing.

On both keyboards, the Delete key is placed in the top-right corner, above the letter ‘ף’. In virtually all other Apple keyboard layouts, Delete is in the bottom-right corner, directly above Return.

What makes this even more confusing is that both Hebrew and Yiddish have an alternative Niqqud layout. In that layout, an additional Niqqud key occupies the position where Delete would normally be. Then, when switching to the numbers/symbols keyboard, Delete suddenly moves back down to the bottom-right.

So the same keyboard can effectively have Delete in two different locations depending on the layout:

Hebrew: Delete → top-right

Niqqud: Niqqud key → top-right

Numbers/Symbols: Delete → bottom-right

This inconsistency leads to unnecessary confusion, more typing errors, and slower typing- !!especially when switching between languages!!

Could Apple add an alternative layout?

Instead of changing the existing Hebrew/Yiddish layout, simply add another alternative layout where Delete is in the bottom-right, directly above Return.

Ideally, the four layouts would be:

• Hebrew
• Hebrew Alternative
• Niqqud
• Niqqud Alternative.

*(And the same four options for Yiddish.)

This would preserve the current layout for users who prefer it while giving users a consistent Delete-key position across Apple’s keyboards.
