Apple Books no longer highlights the current chapter in Table of Contents on iOS/iPadOS/macOS 27

After updating to iOS/iPadOS 27, Apple Books no longer highlights or scrolls to the chapter I am currently reading when I open the Table of Contents.

Previously, opening the TOC would immediately show where I was in the book. Now I have to manually look through the chapter list to find my current position.

This is especially disruptive when reading long nonfiction books, since I often open the TOC to check my progress and see what is coming next.

I already reported this during the iOS/iPadOS 27 beta, but the issue is still present in the public release.

Has anyone else seen the same behavior?

honestly it’s so annoying why can’t they just leave it as is. They add so many pointless updates to the book app which nobody wants. Not only did they make it difficult to see what chapter we are on for some reason, they also for some reason are now forcing me to click the x button in the top right in order to close the book instead of being able to swipe down.

WHY ARE YOU MAKING THINGS MORE DIFFICULT FOR NO REASON APPLE??
