You could have only had your iPhone for a few days at best at this point. Your phone is still indexing the data you moved over to the device, which can take a few days to complete. So even not using the phone much doesn't mean the phone isn't doing anything. And during this process the battery is being used, which does generate heat naturally in a process called Thermo Dynamic Exchange. Give the phone a few days to complete it's housekeeping activities.

And let's also define overheating. When an iPhone overheats, it displays a red thermometer on the screen and advises you can't use the phone until it cools down. If you're not seeing that, your phone ISN'T overheating.

I would recommend you Force Restart your phone, which will force close any app running in the background by following this procedure exactly. In the last step, while holding the side power button, KEEP HOLDING even when you see the slide to power off slider and KEEP HOLDING it until the screen goes black and KEEP HOLDING it until the Apple Logo appears, THEN let go --> Force restart iPhone - Apple Support

I had a look in the battery usage and found that the Eufy app was using a ton of background battery, we’re talking 25% in an hour so I looked in Background app refresh and found a load of apps to turn off in there. Not had the issue since doing that and no idea why the Eufy app would suddenly start doing that, it’s not had an app update in that time.

Same here ... bought it on 18th ... launch day and the 18 pro max randomly gets hot and battery just plunges. installed iOS 27.0.1. hasn't resolved this issue. it may not be overheating but its noticeably hot not warm and this didn't happen to 17 pro max. I've checked the battery usage and haven't found any particular reason. Apple should investigate this and release a bug fix update for this issue

I’ve had my iPhone since the 18 and yesterday the 26th my iPhone 18 pro max started getting so hot that I couldn’t even hold the phone, the battery wouldn’t charge and the phone died on me and wouldn’t charge until I put it in the freezer for a few minutes. I work off my phone so not being able to use it is a NO NO. I have had every single iPhone pro max since the beginning and this has never happened with any of my new iPhones before. This is next level. Something is definitely wrong with the pro max this time around or maybe the update has a bug or something causing this. This is abnormal I should be able to charge my phone and use it. It freezes and won’t work when it starts overhearing and the thermostat not coming up is not the only indicator that it’s overheating because if I can’t hold the phone or I can’t charge it then that’s a sign right there. This needs to be fixed ASAP

Mine was fine for the first 5 days and was leaving me with 20-30% battery at the end of the day. Since Saturday it’s got through about 70% battery within a couple of hours and is very warm. I charged it up again in the morning yesterday and it was ok for the rest of the day so seems to be something early in the morning doing it.

I am so upset. I should’ve waited a bit longer to get the new 18 pro. The battery is draining and today it got hot while on a FaceTime call. It **** my phone down and said it can’t charge till it cools down. I had to Stick it in the freezer. It doesn’t charge fast and I’ve never had to charge my 17 pro max this much. This is ridiculous. I’m outside the 14 day return window. Apple needs to do better. I want my 17 back.

It's over 2 weeks and indexing should be finished with 776.7 GB available.

I walk everyday 4.3 - 5.5 miles and run MapMyWalk, Strava, Google Health, Listen App (music) and Pokémon Go. I purchased 18 Pro with Silicon Case both black from Apple.

While walking the iPhone felt warm, easy to touch and it was 83'f outside. The camera "Zoom" did not function completely as it would only zoom half way and the bottom 1/2 inch of screen was dead (no response in any app). Next day on exact same walk it was 75'f and no issues.

Apple Agent said it working perfectly!

My 12 Pro got hot but never stopped functions of iPhone.

Is this normal!?!?!?! I like the functions of the 12 Pro more than the 18 Pro when it is hot.

Hello ... so an update ... its now 23 days since purchase of my 18 pro max. Its on iOS 27.0.1. indexing is obviously done. update apps regularly but the phone still gets very hot randomly and the battery nosedives. didn't have this issue with the 17 pro max despite the smaller vapour chamber / less efficient A19 Pro Chip. force restarts dont help. the app using the battery can be any app. its not any particular app or category. short of a trip to apple service I have no idea why this is so. anyone has found solutions ? Apple has to fix what is hopefully a software issue.

Same issue. I called them and they ran a test and said everything wash fine. In the meantime my phone randomly gets burning hot out of nowhere. What bothers me is that it’s not triggering a heat warning. Does yours or anyone’s do this? New phone better cooling chamber and it gets burning hot out of nowhere?? I hope they figure this out unless these phones have a design flaw.
