Can’t update apps because Apple says i owe money for a subscription like they’ve already paid for it

You agreed to pay for those purchases until you cancel. That is all seen on the Approval Screen which required you to double click the side button, followed by authentication with Face ID or Passcode. It is true you are being held accountable for that action and simply not paying does not remove your obligations.

Pay what you have agreed to pay and you will be able to use the App Store again. If you don't want to continue a subscription, then cancel at least 24 hours before that subscription renews. It really is that simple.

If you cancelled a credit card, that doesn't remove the subscription. The App Store is still going to try and charge the card when the next payment is due.

In order to actually stop further charges, you have to cancel the subscription itself. Until then, the charges will keep piling up, and will require payment.

I'm sorry you're not getting the sympathy you seem to think you're entitled to here, but the fact remains, you have to pay Apple what you owe or you can't update apps. It's honestly that simple. Continuing to argue what you think is simply pointless here and a waste of time. As you've been told, this is a user to user only forum. We aren't Apple and can't change Apple policies because you feel entitled.

Because you are required to have a valid payment method on your account (as stated in the terms of use).

It is entirely because you had agreed to pay it. No need to make it more complicated than what it is. The App Store is a privilege for accounts in good standing, and that also includes updates to any of your apps.
