iPhone 18 Pro Bluetooth connection unstable with Alexa and Echo devices

I have the new iPhone 18 Pro with IOS 27.0. The bluetooth connection is unstable. It will work for a few devices, like Apple Watch and, so far, the Lexus vehicle. However, it will not connect properly to Alexa and Echo devices.

These devices cannot see the bluetooth connection from the iPhone. When I put the devices into pairing mode, after more than a minute or two, the iPhone can finally see the device. I then connect the device by selecting it from the iphone Bluetooth device list.

It then works for about 2-4 minutes. But eventually, the device disconnects. When I ask the Echo or Alexa device to connect, it again cannot see the bluetooth connection from the phone. When I try to select the device from the Bluetooth device list on the iphone, it fails to connect. I then have to forget the device and start all over.

I'm 100% sure the issue is the iphone. I have tried multiple other devices to connect to the Echo and Alexa devices, including other older iphones and they connect fine. I've only had the phone for a few days and the bluetooth connection has never worked properly.

I'm deeply concerned because I use the iPhone for glucose monitoring devices like Libre 3+ and Dexcom G7, and I'm concerned it won't pair correctly and will burn through an $80 sensor. So the issue is also a bit urgent, as well as important.

It's entirely the iPhone and honestly I don't understand why more people aren't complaining. Story and solution: this started happening on my iPhone 17 Pro, Bluetooth would disconnect intermittently from devices and even lock me out of our cars. I also have a CGM, and I called the manufacturer and they told me the solution below. The fix is temporary and I got tired of doing the trick weekly, so I begrudgingly sold the phone and got a S26 Ultra instead. Fast forward a year and my wife finally upgraded from her 13 Pro Max (which had zero Bluetooth issues) to an 18 Pro Max, and I even said I would reconsider if they fixed the issue on the new gen phones... within a week, her phone started doing the exact same thing and she returned it and now also has a Galaxy. Really unfortunate because we've been Team Apple since the 3G, but I can't have this phone messing around on my health disconnecting from my CGM and locking me out our cars.

Anyway, the problem is the two separate Bluetooth menus. Shoutout to my CGM support for sharing the solution (which makes me think Apple is aware of it):

1 - Turn off Bluetooth. Make sure it's really off, sometimes it'll show off on the drop down but still be on in settings.

2 - Go to Settings - Privacy & Security - Bluetooth. Click off every device toggled there. Wait two minutes. Click the devices you want connected back on.

3 - Turn Bluetooth back on.

If ya did it right, the connections will all work for a few days and then they'll randomly drop again and you'll have to repeat the process.

I wish this was a joke, truly "enđź’©ification" at its finest.

Had no issues using iOS 27 Developer betas using a 17 Pro Max. Purchased an 18 Pro Max with stable iOS 27 release and have the 17 on stable release as well.

Both phones will not stay connected to Echo Dots and once “paired” can no longer connect… have to forget and re-pair.

I have de-registered and re-registered one Dot… same result.

I have no issues with my Echo Show or other BT devices.

Alexa and Echo devices are not designed exclusively around the iOS ecosystem. They are Amazon products designed to work across different platforms, operating systems and devices. As a result, certain features or functions may behave differently when Alexa or Echo is used with an iPhone.

If you are experiencing difficulties with Alexa or Echo on your iPhone—such as Bluetooth disconnections, connectivity problems, certain features not working, settings not appearing, or differences in functionality—the issue should not automatically be attributed to iOS. Bluetooth disconnections can also originate from the Alexa/Echo device, the Alexa app, the Bluetooth implementation, firmware, or the way the manufacturer has designed the device to communicate with iOS.

It is also important to understand that if the same device or feature works correctly with an iPad or Apple Watch, that does not necessarily mean that it is fully compatible with every iOS device or that it should behave identically on an iPhone. Different Apple devices can use different operating-system components, Bluetooth profiles, APIs, hardware capabilities and implementation methods. Compatibility with one Apple device therefore does not, by itself, establish complete compatibility with another.

If you are having a specific Bluetooth disconnection or compatibility problem between Alexa/Echo and your iPhone, the appropriate step is to contact Amazon, the manufacturer of Alexa and Echo, or the Alexa app support team. They can confirm whether the particular device and feature are officially supported on your iPhone and whether there are any known compatibility limitations, firmware requirements, or recommended troubleshooting steps.

Apple Support can help determine whether there is an iPhone or iOS-related problem, but Amazon is ultimately responsible for how Alexa and Echo are designed and implemented to communicate with Apple devices.

An update on what I have tried. The connection to the Lexus was also flaky, which is why I didn't automatically assume the problem was solely with the Alexa devices. However, I did figure out that wiping all of the Alexa devices clean might have solved the issue. I'm checking now. Doing the same for the Lexus. Thank you for the thought on distance. I did make sure to keep them in close proximity. I was also thinking maybe there was some sort of range difference causing the problem, but it turns out the new iphone range is comparable.

To expand a bit futher, I have a guess or theory on why the devices won't continue to pair properly. By transferring the profile from an old Apple phone to a new phone, there are certain settings that are migrating that are confusing these devices. A reset of the device where all of the data is wiped clean might solve it.

Same problem here, only with my echo dot and only my new 18 Pro Max. All other iOS devices work fine, and my phone has no Bluetooth issues with anything else.

I assume it’s a specific issue between these two specific devices

I’m just hoping the future iOS update makes things better. I use this Echo to play music while working out, so I’ve just opted to connecting my iPad to it, but it’s not as good an experience since I move around with my phone by my side, so it’s harder to change songs and of course my Apple Watch can’t see my iPad, so I can’t use that to control the music either. First world problems, but still annoying
