Regarding "shared cloud space" as long as you have enabled your (same) Apple Account & iCloud on both Macs you can share & sync many things between them ... including Desktop & Documents folders, Photos, Messages, etc. But understand, once you enable iCloud sharing your files are stored in the cloud & sync'd to each Mac.

ps. iCloud sharing is a sharing & sync service, it is not backup. If you change, move or delete a documen/file on one Mac the change will be propagated to the other Mac almost immediately.

You can also use your iCloud account to sync things between your Mac(s) and your iPhone or iPad if you have one. In my experience most people use that for sync'ing Photos but you can share other things too.

One other bit of advice ... if, as you said, this is for work, don't use it for any personal things or activity. You could end up with a bunch of trouble mixing work & personal things on the same computer(s). Among other things you risk exposing your personal information and other matters to your employer (many employers now routinely watch, scan, track their employees' computing activities). If you are using this for work, make sure you are in compliance with your employer's policies & requirements.
