Compatibility between Turbo Tax 2025 app and Mac OS 27

Hello -

I have an older M2 MacBook Air that I'm running OS 27 on.

Thus far, the OS and the Apps that I have and use have all be playing nicely.

Until I went to file my 2025 Taxes yesterday.

I use Turbo Tax. And there is a clear problem between OS 27 and TT2025 in the online transmittal area.

It took me four attempts at transmitting my State and Fed returns today. The app ran fine, until the transmittal process and locked up during. Spinning pinwheel and all. I waited 20 minutes, and had to force close each time.

I checked in with Turbo Tax's support who claimed that have been receiving a lot of support calls from MAC OS 27 users suddenly. Which didn't help me, but I knew it wasn't just my own hardware/software situation.

I tried disabling my software firewall, tethering from my iPhone, even creating a new Admin user. Nothing worked.

While I had Apple support on chat, I tried twice more and the second time the transmittal went through. I received an email confirmation from Intuit that the transmittal was successful.

Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience?

I understand that TT will no longer be compatible with OS 28. The TT rep shared that TT is trying to convince people to go online instead of purchasing the local app to get around this problem. We'll see next year.

I just found this suggestion in Intuit’s Community! A user complained about not being able to switch from Forms back to EasyStep in TurboTax under macOS Golden Gate. The recommendation was to install Rosetta 2 on your Mac, which was removed when upgrading to Golden Gate.

Assuming that solves the problem (likely), the TurboTax application should have prompted you to do this installation when first opened under macOS Golden Gate, and failed to do so. That would be on Intuit.

Well you should absolutely try the Rosetta 2 installation to see if that resolves your issue.

As the OSXDaily article suggests, simply type (exactly) the following into Golden Gate’s Terminal app:

/usr/sbin/softwareupdate --install-rosetta --agree-to-license

And by the way, Intuit is reportedly planning to introduce a native Apple silicon universal binary for the 2026 tax year.

The fact that your transmittal failed several times but did eventually succeed points to a possible intermittent network or internet issue, but I think an OS incompatibility would have prevented every submittal, not just some. Also, use of a VPN or other network monitor or security tools, anti-virus, etc. might have interfered. Maybe you have none of those, in which case what you describe might be due to an intermittent internet issue.

It is always up to the third party app to make the changes needed in order to be compatible with Apple. It sounds like they have not made the necessary changes and are in fact, trying to move everyone over to a different platform. There is nothing Apple can do about this. Maybe another Apple user will have something to share. But you are asking a very specific question in a forum where people are asking questions pertaining to Apple. Good luck.

After using it for more than 10 years, I ditched TurboTax last year for another application due to a lack of compatibility with older MacOS versions. I’ve since upgraded the MacBook to a newer model, but definitely NOT going back to Turbo Tax. Intuit now want everything to be stored in its cloud. No thanks.

The TT support rep did in fact indicate that TT was trying to move folks over to the online version and away from the desktop version of TT. I don't expect a fix from TT becuase of this statement alone.

I am a long time user of TurboTax on Mac. For what it’s worth (probably not much), I used TurboTax Deluxe 2025 on the then current MacOS Tahoe in February to prepare and submit my Federal and California returns online. Everything worked just fine.

I will be interested to see if TurboTax 2026 is released and supported on macOS Golden Gate.

Thank you for your suggestion! I used your link, copied the code to install Rosetta 2 on my MacBook Air M2. The dialog box stated that it installed, yet TT still didn't produce a print screen. I already got my taxes transmitted (finally) on the 5th attempt. But Rosetta 2 doesn't seem to be installed - or, OS27 isn't recognizing it correctly, idk.

I recently upgraded my old M2 laptop to OS27 (Golden Gate). I don't know if TT2025 would have worked on OS 26.x, because I didn't try it before upgrading to OS27. The TT Rep stated that TT's position was to push migration to online only for Mac OS 27/28 users going forward.

I have ran the Rosetta 2 installer line multiple times. And every time, it reads that it "installs successfully".

My taxes eventually transmitted, so I can't test that particular process any longer. But the print function doesn't work in the app either. Maybe my particular installed of Golden Gate is bad, idk. Everything else seems to work OK.

Good new about TT '26 - fingers crossed it will work on OS 27. Thank you!

The list of options I tried during attempts included disabling Mac's native Firewall, and tethering from my phone (and not using my LAN/own internet provider). I couldn't nail it down to one (or more) multiple items that finally allowed a successful transmittal. My clue was the Turbo Tax Rep's comment that they'd been experiencing an increase of support calls for Mac OS27 users recently. I have personally used TT for 10 years now, on various iterations of MAC OS software and have not experienced what I have until now. So honestly, i don't know what to make of it.

Your article that you shared is an interesting read - I suppose we'll see what Intuit does soon enough, eh?

Indeed we should.

The initial production builds of any TY-2026 “desktop” software should be released in only a few months.

Ensbling us to get started yet again on the “next cycle.” 😕

… I maintain a Win11 Intel laptop which is used almost exclusively for TurboTax and Quicken.
