Logic Pro 12.3.1 won't open logicx projects

Ok forgive me but I'm starting a new question/thread on this sort of topic as I don't see anything newer than a couple years ago and they don't describe my problem exactly. System specs:

MacBook Pro 2019 Intel, OS Sequoia (just installed it new). Had to wipe this machine so everything is brand new.

Phenomena & actions:

Logic Pro 12.3.1 - just reinstalled it from App Store, my existing purchases (from Dec 2025)

Copied all existing .logicx projects from backup thumb drive into /User/Music/Logic folder where they were in last Logic Pro install from December 2025

Attempt Open logicx project from File/Open:

-Logic menu bar goes gray, all option light gray

-Click on Finder, shows menu but also grayed like Logic Pro and will not open any windows

-Clicking on Logic Pro icon (app open) does nothing, no LPro menu shows up, i.e. app will not come back to focus, have to use Force Quit / restart to get it to come back

-Other apps open fine and take focus

I tried copying one project to different path (User/ProjectFolder) to see if it was the path that LPro isn’t liking but it behaves the same

I can make new projects just fine, and opening old .logic projects prompts to Save just as previous (makes a new .logicx project)

It feels like LPro is trying to open the .logicx project in the background somewhere and just hung up endlessly.

I used no special 3rd party plugins in these projects, they came straight over from old Logic Express projects with the stock effects, then I added instrumentation & any newer basic effects and Session Drummer tracks in last install of Logic Pro.

I made all these all these .logicx projects just last year and this year in the same version of LPro I just redownloaded! This is a real disaster if these projects can’t be opened. Thanks much.

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 15.8

Never mind folks, this was all about a display problem, which is exactly what I thought it was looking like. You absolutely must do the "mirror <your monitor> " in the Display settings (HDMI to monitor has to be plugged in for the Extend/Mirror option to show up) or the friggin app windows will be out there in space. The way I debugged it was just to unplug the monitor and see what what happening in the laptop screen and sure enough, the LPro .logic projects were loading up and visible just fine. And still are, for all of them I tried. Didn't make sense to me that Logic was that flaky in a brand new install of everything, it's too good of an app. So thanks for bearing with me and all's well that angst well. Cheers.

Hi yoyoBen - thanks for the reply, replies:

Can you open logic with Rosetta? - dunno what that is or how to do it

Can you open a fresh, new, empty Logic project? - as per my description:

"I can make new projects just fine, and opening old .logic projects prompts to Save just as previous (makes a new .logicx project)"

Try to use modifier keys when starting Logic Use startup modifier keys with Logic Pro for Mac - Apple Support - I will try this, but what exactly is the payoff? If I can't open the projects with the audio files, effects, etc, I have nothing. I will see if it helps to allow any .logicx projects to open at all though.

If all suggestions don't work, retrieve an older Logic version from your backups. - as per my description, I have no older LRpro version, I only started using LPro this past December, download/install from the App Store. I don't even know if App Store dumps a .dmg onto your machine anywhere that you can save off, it's all automatic. I don't think the versions should have changed much in 9 months and if it did to the point of leaving my 6 month old projects behind then it sucks and should be deleted from the universe. This is a totally clean new Sequoia and LPro install. Erratic behavior like this makes me want to refund and abandon.

Call Apple Support - I will however I'm curious if Apple Support monitors these threads at all and can chip in. It's nothing to me to delete/reinstall LPro at this point but I don't know what good that could do, we'll see.

Cheers!

It might not apply to you because you have an intel-mac. Using Intel-based apps on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

Apple doesn't provide a .dmg file. You could have made a backup with time machine or just the simple method:

Back up Logic Pro for Mac - Apple Support

The versions have changed in the last months.

You have to consider, you are working on an out-dated machine (intel) and most of the new features in Logic are not supported with intel macs.
