Apple Gift Card theft, by Apple

Accusing Apple of being a thief isn’t likely to get you any sympathy or help here in these user-to-user forums. Just saying.

There are so many Apple Gift Card scams, especially at retail stores who display the card on unprotected rack. Scammers shoplift the cards, alter them to obscure the codes, seal them back up and replace them back on the rack. You come along and buy the altered card and once it is activated they redeem it. Meanwhile you are arguing with Apple over the missing codes. All gift cards are treated as cash, not only Apple cards, and recovering the money is often futile.

I suspect you are the victim of such a scam.

The OP instigated any “adverse reaction” by claiming outright that Apple haf perpetrated a theft against him …

… when by my read of his post, Apple actually posted the full amount of the “damaged” gift card onto his Apple Account.

If that’s not what he intended, he shouldn’t have unwrapped the card and attempted to read the redemption code.

If he planned to eMail the code to this friend, he should have simply sent an “electronic gift card” from Apple.

It sounds like Apple placed a $250 credit onto your Apple Account.

Presumably, that was the value of the original card which you purchased for your friend and which was damaged ?
