I DO NOT WANT GenerativeModels!

In short. Can someone point me to what I need to disable / remove or scripts I can run so I have a choice of what is installed on my device please?

I DO NOT WANT GenerativeModels! Yet they keep reinstalling over and over again. I paid thousands for a CTO top spec machine please can someone let me know how I can actually own the storage space I paid for.

As former company director/ developer /engineer I purchased hundreds of machines over the years. This is my personal Mac. This is the last Mac I will ever buy!

You own the computer and storage space, but do not own the OS installed, you are just a licensed user. With that said, you cannot remove the models installed with Golden Gate, they are integrated with the operation of the OS. You have no choice on its size and cannot even delete the installed apps that are part of the OS. You may never use a single emoji, but those also cannot be removed and will take up storage space.

You are certainly free to purchase any other device you wish.

I posted some instructions here: Turn off Apple Intelligence in macOS 27 - Apple Community

I'm sure these instructions aren't complete and there is some AI activity still going on. I'll keep searching.

“We” are users like you and have no power to implement any suggestions. Apple employees are generally precluded from even reading these forums, with the exception of moderators who only monitor for compliance with the T&C.

To have Apple consider your feedback, submit it here:

Feedback - macOS - Apple

Note that while you do own the hardware, that hardware can only run macOS, and you DO NOT own macOS. Apple owns it, and you are a licensed user.

or is it on by default now? I was under the impression it was opt in, though it's difficult to get rid of after doing so.

Siri AI is opt in, personally I have never turned Siri on and it remains off on Golden Gate for me. However, Apple Intelligence is on by default.

On my Mac running Tahoe, there is an option to toggle Apple Intelligence off.

On Golden Gate, that option is gone, Apple Intelligence is on by default and cannot be turned off – it is tightly integrated with macOS now. The steps provided by etresoft are all about suppressing the output of Apple Intelligence, which is not the same as turning it off.

That's fine, but reading online I see Windows users complaining about to being able to turn off all of Windows' AI features. Microsoft stock jumped 3% yesterday because of new AI Co-Pilot developments.

Maybe you can install Linux and run your computer (Mac or PC) with that.

As others have noted, you own the hardware but not the software and OS. You pay for license to use the software and OS, so if you don't like some features, obtain a different OS.

If you're so opposed to using storage space for AI features that "This is the last Mac [you] will ever buy", you can write off Windows, as well. Some version of Linux on an Intel- or AMD-based machine will probably be your best bet, given current lack of support for dual-booting OSes other than macOS on Apple Silicon hardware.
