Messages does not show which number I am contacting

Messages app does not show which number I am contacting. When I click info, it shows the contact with nitrile numbers but there is no “recent” indicating which of their numbers I am messaging. How else can I elicit which number or iCloud I am communicating with in messages? Ios27.0
