iPad not sending SMS through selected iPhone (2026-09-27). Done EVERYTHING the usual searches recommended and still doesn’t work.

I have an iPad Air 13” (M3) and a iPhone 13 Pro Max with cell service and both connected to the same WiFi and logged into the same iMessage account. Both have been updated to the latest iOS 27 with Text Messaging turned on on the iPhone and the iPad selected in devices.

I am unable to send SMS from my iPad through my iPhone and has been a problem for the past year since i got this iPad and when it was on the previous os. This is affecting my work since I often have to send things to the green bubble people (android). Sending SMS on my iPhone works just fine.

Whenever I do a search for a solution, the same garbage comes up. Check if sms forwarding is on (yes). Check if you’re signed into the same apple account on both devices (yes), ad nauseum. I do support on Apple devices and have been doing so since System 7.

What is the fix? I don’t want to ditch the iPad for a droid device but may have to.
