Unable to click or type on MacBook during FaceTime screen sharing

I recently had a FaceTime session where I wanted to remote control the user's (family member) MacBook to handle doing what was requested. I had done this one time previously and vaguely recall it working well. This time, though, I noticed I could not issue any clicks to the user's device. The best I could do was use the few Screen Sharing buttons to pull open the user's Apps view and type there to launch apps (but still not click in the app when launched). We are both on macOS 26.6.2, so should be compatible with any screen sharing.

Are there any steps I missed to allow me to have been able to click apps on the device and click and type within Safari, or is this something that is disallowed via the Remote Control feature? If so, that makes the feature seem nearly useless and offering nothing more than the Screen Sharing feature.

MacBook Pro 14″, macOS 26.6
