Updating from Monterey OS to Golden Gate OS on a MacBook Air M1 2020

Hi I'm using Montery OS on an old MacBook Air M1 2020 in good nick though and lots of storage, I need to upgrade my operating system to above 14 to use certain features on other things. Can I upgrade straight to golden gate OS or will there be issues and what else can I update to please?

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.7

A Mac with Apple silicon can upgrade to any available newer macOS version, and can upgrade directly.

I’d probably update to macOS 15 (Sequoia) or macOS 26 (Tahoe) right now, and not macOS 27 (Golden Gate). That because macOS 27 is brand new, and we’re all learning about it. macOS 15 and macOS 26 also have current app support from pretty much any thing-party developer, where macOS 12 (Monterey) does not. Once most everybody figures out macOS 27 and updates are available as needed, then it’s time to upgrade.

See the “older versions” section here for app store links (except Tahoe, which is still available in the app store, but the article hasn’t been updated yet):
