Settings no screen size change

Why can't I put settings into full screen mode. There are numerous settings which require more visibility but there is simply no option to change the width? I don't understand why this is a feature.

The preference panes in System Settings are designed to be navigated in the width provided, or so Apple has decided. “We” are users like you and have no power to implement any suggestions or explain why Apple does what they do. Apple employees are generally precluded from even reading these forums, with the exception of moderators who only monitor for compliance with the T&C.
