What is the best SMB-capable replacement for my retiring Airport Extreme for wireless Time Machine backup?
Now that with MacOS27 Apple has officially (essentially) bricked my flawlessly functioning Airport Extreme, what is the best wireless Time Machine backup solution? Is there a wifi router with SMB external USB drive support that is a clear winner?
Hoping for something that is
- as easy to configure, use, and maintain as the previous all-Apple solution (I don't want to think about it)
- less expensive than buying a desktop Mac just to share a networked drive
- wireless with no mounting/unmounting drives
Am I the only person left who expects a simple local network wireless Time Machine solution that doesn't require its own full operating system and server rack?
