Can’t send pictures since phone updated to iOS 27.0

Ever since my phone update to iOS 27.0 I cannot send pictures by text message. I tried turning iMessages off and waiting then turning back on. I tried turning my phone off and on. Nothing works.

The only way I can send pictures is by screenshotting the picture!!

Really annoying!!!

Apple please fix this issue!!!

The main crux of the first three epistles in the thread is that your problem is with your MMS provision and that is a carrier responsibility. Ask your carrier if there is an update available and check in Settings,General,About for a carrier update.

Perhaps a long shot:

Do you have a 3rd party VPN installed, even if you are not using it? If so, delete the VPN profile in Settings/General/VPN & Device Management/VPN, then restart your device. Don't just turn it off; delete the profile. Updates sometimes "break" VPN, and it needs to be removed. If that fixes it, you can try reinstalling VPN, but probably shouldn't.

If this was the problem please reply and say whether it fixed it or not. If it didn’t there are other things to check.

This fixed it for me

If the issue persists, clearing out corrupted network caches usually forces media queue items to clear. Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Note that this will clear saved Wi-Fi passwords.

Verification: Your phone will reboot automatically; reconnect to your Wi-Fi network and check if a test photo sends successfully.

You cannot send images through a standard SMS (Short Message Service) because SMS is designed primarily for text messages and does not support image attachments.

If you want to send a photo or other multimedia content from an iPhone to an Android device using the carrier’s traditional messaging service, your carrier must support and have MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) activated on your mobile plan. MMS must also be properly enabled and configured on your iPhone.

In other words:

  • SMS → Text messages only; it does not carry photos.
  • MMS → Supports photos, videos and other multimedia attachments.
  • iPhone → Android → If the message is not being sent via iMessage or RCS, the iPhone may use MMS (where supported) to send a photo.
  • Carrier support is essential → Your mobile operator must provision MMS on your SIM/eSIM and your plan must allow MMS.
  • iPhone settings matter → MMS Messaging needs to be enabled under the Messages settings when that option is provided by the carrier.
  • Mobile data may also be required for MMS to work, depending on the carrier.

If MMS is not included or provisioned on your plan, an iPhone may be able to send ordinary text messages but fail when you try to attach a photograph.

For modern iPhones and Android phones, RCS is another option where supported by both the carrier and devices. RCS can handle high-quality photos and other media without relying on traditional MMS.

I found a workaround that worked for me. Right after iOS 27.0.1 upgrade today, I could no longer send photos via Messages on my iPhone 14 Plus. It would start and if I jumped over to the Messages app I could see the progress bar go slowly and then just stop. I tried numerous times to different people. I then turned off Wi-Fi on my iPhone and I was able to send a photo. When I tried sending two photos at once it was taking a very long time and so I turned Wi-Fi back on mid-message send and it finished sending immediately. Don’t know why it worked, but it did. FYI - I also am using a Verizon LTE Network Extender.

To activate iMessage and FaceTime using your Phone number

  1. First, check to know whether you have an SMS plan enabled for at least one SMS*** with your carrier. Contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider), the agency that issued the SIM to you
  2. If your iPhone is used with a carrier not found in the wireless carrier articles, make sure you can send and receive international SMS. (One international SMS*** Only)
  3. If you can't turn on or sign in to iMessage or FaceTime - Apple ...

*** You may not have an SMS plan (Domestic & International) enabled by your carrier for the SIM/eSIM that you use on your device. Apple Inc. does not provide SMS services.

Not every issue an individual encounters on their device can be attributed to an iOS update. iOS 27 or later may have coincided with what you are experiencing, but that does not mean the issue was triggered by iOS. Coincidence in timing is not, by itself, evidence of causation.

If the update itself were the root cause, then every device running that same version of iOS would exhibit the identical problem. In such a scenario, the forums would be flooded with countless posts reporting the same malfunction, creating an unmistakable wave of complaints that no one could possibly overlook.

The absence of such widespread reports strongly indicates that the issue is not a general, system-wide problem with iOS 27 or later, but rather something specific to the individual device, its configuration, installed apps, settings, hardware, or another interacting factor.

In short: iOS 27 or later may be a coincidence in timing, but there is no basis to conclude that iOS itself triggered the problem simply because the issue appeared after the update.

SravanKrA needs to stop posting unrealistic information. I, too, had absolutely no issue sending images via SMS or iMessage until I updated my phone and other devices not even a few hours ago. I have only had the issue since the update. I have taken all troubleshooting suggestions: reset the iMessage connection, restart the phone, reset the network (phone tower and wi-fi). Nothing is working as it should if it were NOT the update. Everything points to some sort of glitch that arose in certain phones due to the update.

Hoping for a fast solution as a lot of my work requires sending photos.
