Whether your Mac is compatible with macOS 27 Golden Gate depends on its specific model.
Apple’s current compatibility list includes MacBook Air with Apple silicon from 2020 onward, MacBook Pro with Apple silicon from 2020 onward, iMac with Apple silicon from 2021 onward, Mac mini with Apple silicon from 2020 onward, Mac Studio from 2022 onward, and Mac Pro with Apple silicon from 2023 onward. Apple also lists the MacBook Neo (2026) as compatible. (Apple)
Apple has made macOS 27 Golden Gate available starting September 14, 2026. (Apple)
If macOS 27 does not appear in Software Update:
If macOS 27 still does not appear, you can check which software updates are currently being offered to your Mac.
Open Terminal and run: softwareupdate --list
You can also check which full macOS installers are currently available for your Mac:
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
If macOS 27.0 or macOS 27.0.1 appears in that list, you can download the full installer with:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 27.0.1
Apple states that if Terminal reports “update not found,” that version of macOS is not available for your Mac. (Apple Support)

There is your error. Instead...
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
...your command was somewhere (maybe in some word processor) converted to:
softwareupdate __list-full-installers
...which the unforgiving Terminal doesn't understand.
At the moment I get:
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
Finding available software
Software Update found the following full installers:
* Title: macOS 27 Golden Gate, Version: 27.0.1, Size: 17955378KiB, Build: 26A434, Deferred: NO

So to download the latest macOS 27.0.1 Golden Gate installer to /Applications I must then:
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 27.0.1
...notice that the Terminal slightly confusingly displays the download process as "installing" but you have to start the install manually. Or prepare a bootable USB installer from it:
Create a bootable installer for macOS - Apple Support
Your MacBook Pro 16" 2023 with an M2 chip is fully compatible with the newly released macOS 27 Golden Gate. If your computer is currently running macOS Tahoe 26.7 and refuses to surface or download the version 27 upgrade, the issue is almost always a temporary software glitch, heavy traffic on Apple's servers, or an active process block.
The current version of macOS is 27.0.1. Based on your post you are running an older version, so the first step is to update your Mac to the current version.
See: Update macOS on Mac - Apple Support
Here are the most common reasons and how to resolve them:
Stuck Software Update Background Process
Sometimes a hidden background process gets stuck holding onto the update service, causing System Settings to falsely claim you are up to date.
softwareupdate --list
softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 27.0.1
Apple Server Traffic & Local Caching
Because macOS 27 was recently released, Apple's content delivery networks can experience heavy traffic, or your Mac's local cache might be lagging.
Conflicting Network Configurations
Active Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), aggressive third-party anti-virus suites, or restricted firewall configurations can block the specific Apple handshake servers required to authenticate major OS downloads.

Try restarting your Mac, or turning it off and then back on.
Hello again
Yes. That message is actually quite specific, and it does not mean that you have done anything wrong in Terminal.
The important part is:
“The software update request for this process was denied as another process is currently performing an operation. Please try again later.”
In other words, macOS's Software Update system is already being used by another process. Your softwareupdate --list-full-installers command tried to access the same update mechanism, and macOS refused to let the second request take control.
Apple confirms that Terminal's softwareupdate --list-full-installers is the appropriate command for finding full macOS installers available for a particular Mac. (Apple Support)
I would not start deleting files or changing system settings yet
Given what you're trying to accomplish—finding out why your M5 MacBook Air isn't seeing macOS 27 (Golden Gate)—I think we should first determine whether the Software Update process is simply still busy, rather than assuming something is broken.
The safest first step is quite simple:
1. Quit Terminal.
2. Restart the MacBook Air normally.
Don't shut it down manually or force it off; use Apple menu → Restart.
3. After the Mac has restarted, don't immediately run the Terminal command.
Wait perhaps 5–10 minutes after you reach the desktop. This gives macOS's background Software Update processes an opportunity to finish whatever operation they were doing.
4. Then open Terminal and run only this command:
softwareupdate --list-full-installers
Don't add sudo, don't modify the command, and don't run several Software Update commands one after another.
What we're looking for
If it works, you should get something resembling:
Finding available software
Available macOS Installers:
* Title: macOS 27.x
Version: 27.x
Build: ...
If macOS 27 does not appear, that's useful information. It would mean we need to investigate why Apple's update service considers that installer unavailable to your particular Mac, rather than trying random Terminal commands.
If you get the same 7507 error again, stop there and paste the complete Terminal response here. Don't try to fix it by killing processes yet. The exact state of the Software Update service will determine the next step.
One other important point: Apple's current documentation explicitly says that --list-full-installers lists the macOS versions currently available for your Mac model, so this is a good diagnostic step for your situation. (Apple Support)
And because you're specifically looking for macOS 27 Golden Gate, Apple now identifies that as a supported macOS release and provides a Terminal method for downloading its full installer when it is available to the Mac. (Apple Support)
Apple: How to download and install macOS
So, for now, I would do only the restart → wait 5–10 minutes → run softwareupdate --list-full-installerssequence. Then show me exactly what it says. We can take the next step from that result rather than guessing.
And now, after being corrected by Matt Haveri, with correct '--list-full-installers' entered in terminal, Terminal has been 'finding available software' for the last 10 minutes and finally shows the following result:

Be patient and give it time and make sure your Internet speed is OK. Sometimes Apple's servers might also be busy so try another day. Or sometimes it might work better in safe mode.
You once helped me to fix my problem with not finding the OS26.6.2 to update my MacBook Air M5. NOW, when I use the Terminal to list-full-installers (in order to find the OS 27. that the same MacBook Air can't find) this is what I get. And I cannot go any further because I don't know what it means '....another process is currently performing an operation...'

Before I ever got any response returned to the command to list-full-installers, the result I got when using check for updates was an incessantly rotating gear, as in 'I'm thinking....'
So, I now tried Terminator again and entered: softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 27.0.1
However, Terminator hangs at 'Scanning for 27.0.1 installer' and the result I got when using check for updates again was an incessantly rotating gear, as in 'I'm thinking....'
