iPhone 18 Pro: VPN toggle bounces, apps show no internet, Music app fails.

I have an iPhone 18 Pro 256 GB running iOS 27.0.1 that I received on 9/22/26, upgrading from a 15 Pro. At home I have AT&T Fiber powering my WiFi at 1 GB speed. There are a number of issues that have manifested themselves with the new phone:

  1. I had previously had installed Proton VPN on the old phone. But it is not connected on the 18. In fact, the toggle switch bounces back and forth on its own between connected and not connected while looking at it in the Settings.
  2. A number of apps will state I have no internet connection, despite the WiFi symbol being displayed at the top of the screen. That includes the SpeedTest app, which loads, states I am connected to the internet, but then when it begins its test, errors out and tells me to check my internet connection.
  3. Another issue is my Music app and some songs don't play now. The play button pops up after a short silence between songs and pressing it does nothing. And under General Settings, it shows I have 0 songs, when I had 2,000+ on my previous iPhone -- though my library on the phone does show they were transferred and I backed up the new phone to my iMac and synced it.

TIA

No guarantees but my suggestion would be to start by completely deleting the VPN and then performing a Forced Restart on the iPhone.

Stay tuned to see if other users agree.

When things are working reliably with the other apps regarding Internet connections, you can try to reinstall the VPN, but it is not needed unless your employer or school requires it to connect to their network.

Can't help on the Music app, but another user may be able to help. Hold off on that issue until the Internet connections are stable.

Thank you Bob!
I deleted the Proton VPN and restarted the iPhone and the Music issues are resolved. Still showing 0 songs in the General Settings About page, though.
And the SpeedTest works again.

Now do yourself a favor and NEVER EVER install a VPN on your iPhone again. They don't provide the security people have been led to believe, in fact, quite the opposite. They do, however, cause LOTS of connectivity issues.
