iPhone merges and scrambles long SMS messages from same sender

Hi everyone,

i have on iPhone 14 iOS 27 received two separate SMS messages from the same business sender ID . Instead of showing two messages, the iPhone displayed them as one message with the text from both mixed together and scrambled.

Details:

- Standard SMS , not iMessage

- Sender is the telecom company

- No shared Apple ID involved

- English

-

I've already reviewed older threads, but most cover iMessage conversations merging because of shared Apple IDs, which is a different issue.

My questions:

1. Has anyone seen this recently iOS 27?

2. Is there a simple fix on the iPhone, other than deleting the conversation and restarting?

3. Does iOS combine parts of long SMS based only on the sender and reference number? Could two long messages from the same sender get merged if they share a reference number?

4. Can incomplete parts of an older message stay stored on the iPhone and get combined with a newer message?

5. Is Reset Network Settings enough to prevent this, or is Reset All Settings needed?

6. Is there anything the customer can do to prevent it from happening again?

Thanks in advance for any help!
