MacOS 27.0.1 still did not fix the allocation apps and spaces.

You can assign an app to a specific desktop space in macOS by right-clicking its icon in the Dock and selecting your preferred space under the Options menu.

How to Assign an App to a Desktop Space

  • Open the app so its icon appears in your Dock.
  • Control-click (or right-click) the app's icon in the Dock.
  • Hover over Options, then look under the Assign To section.
  • Choose one of these options:
    • This Desktop: The app opens only in your current space.
    • All Desktops: The app opens and appears in every space.
    • Desktop on Display [number]: The app opens on a specific physical display if you use multiple monitors.
    • None: The app opens on whatever space you are currently using

Yes, it appears to be the case that when opening a file in an open application that has not been assigned to a Desktop, that file opens in Desktop 1. However, you can still assign applications to specific Desktops.

In macOS Tahoe, when opening a file in an open application that has not been assigned to a Desktop, that file opens in whatever Desktop/Space the last file from that app was in. To me, that appears to be a bug in macOS Golden Gate. There have been many issues reported with Mission Control and Spaces on macOS 27 Golden Gate.
