Unable to send photos via SMS from iPhone or iPad after iOS 27 update

Unable to send photos via SMS from either iPad or iPhone running iOS 27 and iOS 27.0.1.

Previously (pre iOS 27.0) I could happily:

Take a photo.
Share it (square icon with arrow pointing up) with my wife.
Send it.
She would receive it.

Now the same process (in both 27.0 and 27.0.1) results in the very uninformative “Not Delivered” in red. Clicking on the red exclamation mark results in the duplicate message “this message was not delivered - try again”.

In Settings:Camera:Formats I’ve selected “Most Compatible”.

I’ve now resorted to taking photos and then waiting until I get home before I try to show them.

Regards,

Mark

Update from Apple Support:

"It seems that the issue is sending photos from the camera app, I was checking on my resources and it is currently a situation that is being investigated.

We are currently working and investigating further in order to find the best possible solution for this, from my part I’ve escalated the concern so our Engineering team can be aware of this and help us further with a future update, is possible that a solution will be done on an update."

Sending photos from within "Photos" does work though.

Check your MMS settings and status with your Carrier, that seems to be the common factor in postw I have seen. Your carrier may need to issue an update (settings, General, About)

Assuming you do have cellular service and can make and receive phone calls, open Settings > Apps > Messages > Scan down to Text Messaging - Make sure RCS Messaging is turned on as well as MMS Messaging.

Who pays these yahoos at Apple to create updates that cause more pain then benefit? I have 2 Iphone 14s. Both cannot deliver photos through Messages since i0S 27.0.1. automatically downloaded. Bloody frustrating.

I’m afraid I don’t have “RCS” as an option.

”MMS Messaging” is there and on as is “Retry as Text Message”.

Hi Mark, have they reached out with a solution for you yet? My friend is having the same exact concern. Thank you.
