iPhone 14 Pro Max has periodic outgoing call issues after iOS 27 update

iPhone 14 Pro Max — calling issues after updating to iOS 27.0.1

After updating to iOS 27, I periodically cannot make outgoing calls with Orange Moldova. When I press the call button, there is no ringing tone and the call does not connect, although mobile data and signal may still work.

Sometimes restarting the iPhone makes calls work temporarily, but the problem comes back. My SIM works normally in another phone, and another SIM works normally in my iPhone. I also switched to eSIM — the problem disappeared for about a day, but then returned.

Apple’s built-in cellular diagnostics found no problems with the iPhone or cellular hardware.

Has anyone experienced the same issue after iOS 27/27.0.1, especially with Orange?

To make a regular cellular phone call, you do not need cellular data or an Internet connection, regardless of which mobile carrier you use, including Orange Moldova.

A traditional cellular voice call is carried over the carrier’s mobile voice network, using the cellular signal from your SIM/eSIM. It is therefore completely different from an Internet-based call such as WhatsApp, FaceTime Audio, Telegram, or other VoIP services, which require an Internet connection.

So, even if Mobile Data is turned off or you have no Wi-Fi/Internet connection, you can still make and receive normal cellular calls—as long as your phone is connected to the carrier’s voice network and you have adequate cellular coverage.

If you are unable to make a regular cellular call while you have cellular signal, the issue is more likely related to voice service, network registration, VoLTE/IMS configuration, SIM/eSIM provisioning, roaming, or the carrier itself, rather than the absence of Internet or cellular data.

Not every issue an individual encounters on their device can be attributed to an iOS update. iOS 27 or later may have coincided with what you are experiencing, but that does not mean the issue was triggered by iOS. Coincidence in timing is not, by itself, evidence of causation.

If the update itself were the root cause, then every device running that same version of iOS would exhibit the identical problem. In such a scenario, the forums would be flooded with countless posts reporting the same malfunction, creating an unmistakable wave of complaints that no one could possibly overlook.

The absence of such widespread reports strongly indicates that the issue is not a general, system-wide problem with iOS 27 or later, but rather something specific to the individual device, its configuration, installed apps, settings, hardware, or another interacting factor.

In short: iOS 27 or later may be a coincidence in timing, but there is no basis to conclude that iOS itself triggered the problem simply because the issue appeared after the update.
