iPad (6th generation) charge port not working properly

The charge port on my iPad (6) is not working properly. I sometimes have to hold the charger in order to charge. It! I have had this iPad for about four years. Wondering if I should upgrade or just get the port repaired. I find that iPads usually have a life of about five years.

thanks everyone!

Have you tried using a different charging cable? Charging issues attributed to the charging-port may actually be due to a damaged cable which is both relatively cheap and simple to replace.

When connecting or disconnecting a cable, always be gentle; hold the plug and not the cable when connecting or disconnecting. Never push or pull at an angle; always insert or withdraw directly. Done properly, the life of the charging port will exceed the overall lifespan of the device itself.

For practical purposes, in lieu of repairing and returning your own iPad, Apple usually exchange a qualifying iPad for a renewed/refurbished iPad of the same model and specification. The cost of the exchange is the same as would otherwise be charged for repair. Unless you have benefit of an active AppleCare plan, an out-of-warranty repair/exchange will be expensive but somewhat less than the cost of a new iPad.

As for out-of-warranty repair costs, Apple offers a fixed-price price repair. You can verify eligibility and cost for your region/country here:

iPad Repair & Service - Apple Support

If you have an active AppleCare+ plan, the cost of repair is reduced to a small excess/deductible fee.

Given the age of your iPad, the cost of repair is unlikely to be an economic choice. Instead, you might be best advised to put the cost of repair towards purchase of a much more recent or current model of iPad.
