I have a Macbook M4 running Tahoe 26.6.2 connected to a Fiio X9 DAC via USC-C to USB-B. But whenever I start playing a sound (eg Youtube) it delays and doesn't play until a second or 2 in. This does not happen with the internal speakers.

Sounds like an issue for your third party Fiio X9 DAC to sort out...
