App Store wanting me to verify with payment but canceled subscription

When I go to the App Store and try to download anything. It says that I have a subscription I need to renew and it says I need to put in payment information or I need to pay it but I cancelled the subscription and I deleted it from my phone altogether, so how do I fix this because I cannot download nothing even with my debit card on file and I’m not paying for a subscription. I don’t want. I’ve already cancelled it.

iPhone 17, iOS 26

If it tried to charge you for the subscription before you cancelled or immediately after (if you cancelled less than 24 hours before it was set to renew) and it was left pending, then you need to pay for it. There is no way around it.

you must add a valid and verifiable payment method to cover that charge.

Once it has been successfully charged, you can request a refund.

and I deleted it from my phone altogether,

How did you manage that? Subscriptions cannot be removed from the iPhone by the user, once successfully cancelled they drop off from the subscription listing in Settings ➜ Account after some time on their own, but they cannot be forcefully removed from there at all.

As said, you need to allow the pending charge to complete and charge you and then request a refund once it is successfully complete. Only then will you be allowed to again update exisiting apps and downlaod free apps.

Welcome and thank you for reaching out. 🤗

You’re likely still being charged because the subscription wasn’t fully canceled before the next billing cycle.

To resolve this, go to Settings, [your name], select Subscriptions and confirm that your subscription is canceled.

Then, visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, find the charge and request a refund explaining why you canceled the subscription.

If you need more help, contact Apple Support directly.

Good Luck! 👋🏼😉

I actually canceled the subscription right away cause the app I downloaded wasn’t working properly n u can delete any app u download as long as u cancel it if its a free trial I downloaded a few different apps they are live scanners for my area n didn’t have any issues with any the other ones I cancelled just this one n the free trial was for 7 days I did the cancellation same day cause it wasn’t working right n was the wrong app

Yes it does say cancelled has been since the same day I downloaded it n tried the free trial but i’ve never had this problem with any of the other free trials that I’ve tried because sometimes I have to download a couple different apps of the same kind of app with a couple different ones and I’ll do the free trial and I’ll immediately delete them and cancel the subscriptions first if they’re not what I was neat if they’re not the right one, but this one won’t delete

And I cancelled the same day and it was a seven day free trial so I don’t know why but I don’t have the money to pay for it so I can’t even download my free apps. Nothing I love iPhone. I love Apple, but I’m to the point of going back to android if it’s gonna keep being like this cause it is so frustrating.
