iPhone 15 Pro shows overheating warning and drops network after iOS 27 update

I am writing to formally report a persistent issue with my iPhone 15 Pro following the installation of iOS 27 and the subsequent update to iOS 27.0.1.

After updating to iOS 27, I began experiencing a recurring problem where a warning message appears on the screen stating:

"iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it."

This warning frequently appears whenever I start using mobile data or internet-based applications. At the same time, the network connection drops completely for several seconds, causing interruption to calls, browsing, and other online activities. The issue occurs repeatedly throughout the day and significantly affects the normal use of the device.

To resolve the problem, I updated the device to iOS 27.0.1, expecting that the issue would be fixed. Unfortunately, the overheating warning and network dropouts continue to occur with the same frequency.

The device was functioning perfectly prior to these incidents, and no such issues were observed before the installation of the recent iOS 27 updates. Therefore, it appears that the problem may be related to the software update or its compatibility with the device. how to fix it.

What you describe points to a network/modem-related problem rather than simply normal iPhone heating. The important clue is that the heating starts when mobile data or internet-heavy apps are used, and the cellular connection simultaneously drops for several seconds.

Possible causes include:

  • Poor or unstable cellular signal: The modem may work harder when the signal is weak, increasing heat and causing temporary disconnections.
  • 5G ↔ 4G/LTE switching: Repeated network handovers can make the modem work harder and occasionally interrupt connectivity.
  • Carrier/network issue: A problem with the SIM/eSIM, carrier provisioning, or local network can produce repeated dropouts.
  • iOS/modem software issue: A software bug can affect both cellular performance and thermal behaviour.
  • Hardware issue: If this happens consistently across different locations and networks, the cellular modem/antenna or related hardware becomes more suspect.
  • A particular app: If the problem occurs only with certain apps, background data activity or an app malfunction could be contributing.

A useful diagnostic test: try these one at a time:

  1. Switch from 5G to LTE/4G
    1. Settings → Cellular/Mobile Service → Cellular Data Options → Voice & Data → LTE
    2. Use the phone normally for several hours.
  2. Compare Wi-Fi and mobile data
    1. If the iPhone remains cool and stable on Wi-Fi but heats up and loses connectivity on cellular data, that strongly points toward the cellular modem/network/SIM/carrier path.
  3. Try another SIM/eSIM
    1. If possible, test another carrier's SIM in the iPhone.
    2. Conversely, test your current SIM in another phone.
  4. Observe the signal when the failure occurs
    1. Note whether the signal bars suddenly disappear, change to SOS, or remain normal while data stops working.
  5. Restart the iPhone and check iOS/carrier settings
    1. Also check Settings → General → About for a possible Carrier Settings Update.

If the phone becomes noticeably hot at the same moment the cellular connection disappears, especially if this happens repeatedly regardless of location or carrier, I would have Apple run hardware diagnostics rather than treating it simply as an app or battery issue.

If you see an alert on your iPhone saying that “iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it,” do not ignore it or assume that the warning is fake. This is a genuine safety mechanism built into the iPhone to protect the device from excessive heat.

The temperature inside the iPhone may actually have risen beyond the safe operating range, which can trigger the warning. This can happen because of several factors, such as direct exposure to sunlight, a hot surrounding environment, prolonged use of GPS or navigation, gaming, video recording, intensive processing, wireless charging, charging while using demanding applications, or leaving the device inside a hot vehicle.

Even if the iPhone does not feel extremely hot to your hand, its internal components may have reached a temperature at which continued operation could affect performance or potentially damage the battery and other components.

When this warning appears, stop using the iPhone and disconnect it from the charger if it is charging. Move it to a cooler, shaded and well-ventilated location and allow it to cool naturally. Avoid placing it in a refrigerator or freezer, as a sudden temperature change can cause condensation and damage the device.

The warning is therefore not something to dismiss as a software glitch simply because the phone appears normal externally. The iPhone's temperature sensors and thermal-management system are designed to detect excessive internal temperatures and temporarily restrict certain functions when necessary.

In short, take the warning seriously. Let the iPhone cool down first, identify what may have caused the overheating, and resume normal use only after the warning disappears and the device has returned to a normal temperature.

Many iphone users specially 15 pro max and also 14 pro max are facing the same issue after getting updated to the ios 27 and ios27.0.1. I also personally experiencing this same problem although the phone is in its normal state of temprature and also one more important thing to be noted that whenever i use it heavily like playing games like PUBG it never appears but in the normal scenerios like texting, browsing, calling, scrolling type things it appears after 4 minutes or 7 minutes like surrounded these time periods repeatedly which cause the major disturbance in using my iphone. Apple really needs to take an action about this hilarious bug

Dear Support Team,

I am writing to report a serious issue that I have been experiencing with my iPhone 15 Pro after updating to iOS 27.

Since the update, my iPhone continuously displays a heating warning/pop-up message, even when the device is not actually heated. The warning appears repeatedly even when I am not using the phone. I have also noticed that this occurs when both mobile data and Wi-Fi are turned off.

This issue is very concerning and appears to have started after the iOS 27 update. I kindly request that your technical team investigate this issue urgently and provide a solution as soon as possible. I also request that this problem be addressed in the next iOS update, as it is significantly affecting the normal use of my device.

I have attached a photo of the heating warning message for your reference.

I would appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and a prompt resolution.

Thank you for your support and assistance.
