How to fix constant beachballing in iMovie on Mac?

iMovie started beachballing today to the extent that it's unusable. I updated everything, closed and reopened several times, still beachballs at every cut for 30 seconds. SOS.

Hi,

Make sure that you have sufficient space on your internal application drive, for iMovie to operate efficiently. I would say at least 10GB.

Also, try creating a new project and see if the problem replicates there.
