Identifying hollowed out USB-C to USB-C cable for newer devices

I seem to have 2 different USB-C to USB-C cables. One with a completely flat tee end and one with a hollowed out flat end cable (newest devices). They are not interchangeable but I find no information identifying the newer hallowed out cable and I am unsure which I will be purchasing to replace damaged cable. The pictures on the web are not helpful-all look flat.

A USB-C connector has a standard plug and socket arrangement. Perhaps this image will help you to identify and differentiate between the connector types - and armed with this knowledge, determine the type of cable that you need.


Cables obviously have two ends - which may differ dependent upon the connection type. By example, you may be looking for a USB-C to Lightning cable:
