Accidentally closed Safari tabs after moving; cannot restore

I accidentally closed multiple important Safari tabs while moving them from one tab group to another, please help me get them back…

iPad A16, iPadOS 26.6.2, Safari - current on all updates. Detailed step by step description below:

I was in the process of moving important tabs that have been open for months in one tab group to another tab group (I had not read them because they were in the wrong tab group and I forgot they were there and thus hadn't read them).

I opened the tab group I wanted to move the tabs from, used the “Select” option and clicked on the tabs I wanted to move (little blue checkmark appears on each selected file).

After selecting the tabs I wanted to move, I clicked the “Move” option and a list of all my tab groups appeared.

I selected the tab group I wanted to move the tabs to, that tab group then opened and populated (loaded) all of the tabs I had just moved.

Success!!…. Temporally…

After the successful move the only option remaining in the menu (the rest were grayed out) was “Close 91 tabs?”

It didn't make sense to me, why would I want to close tabs I just moved? So I assumed it was asking if I wanted to close the same 91 tabs that were still open in the original tab group I just moved them from and like an idiot clicked yes. All 91 tabs I just moved closed. OH NO!! I frantically looked for an undo option. There should be one right? Nope!

I have spent hours searching Apple support groups and the web for a way to restore them and none of the suggested methods have worked. Pressing and holding the plus icon brought up a list of recently closed tabs, but none of the tabs I moved were listed there. I assume this is because the tabs I moved were actually opened many months ago and the recently closed list is based on the date the tab was opened, not the date it was closed as one would expect. I looked for them in history, but once again they had been opened long ago and the history did not go back that far. Is there any possible way to restore them? Undelete them? Unclose them? Reopen them? Recover them??

I know I should have bookmarked them instead of leaving them open but I didn't. DOH!

If it is not possible to Undelete them? Unclose them? Reopen them? Recover them? Restore Them? Why not??

Why on earth is the option to “close 91 tabs“? even there in the first place? especially if there really is no method to restore them? Apple really dropped the ball on this. One of the tabs I accidentally closed was contact information for my biological father I have never met and took me years to find. I have no idea why the **** I didn’t bookmark it but I didn’t. This can’t be all that unique of a problem, people accidentally close tabs all the time. It’s downright stupid to include an option to close all tabs right after moving them! Wouldn’t a better option be to “Undo the Move?

Yes there is. Next time you do something you regret "shake to undo" will work. It will restore all the tabs you inadvertently closed.

Apple is not here. To contact Apple you need to Contact Apple.

My first question has to be, Who are you? 🧐 Thank you very much for you're prompt response, I assume for this to work you need to have the option shake to undo turned on in settings. Which I don’t so it wouldn’t have worked, but I didn’t know that it would do that so I guess I’ll reconsider turning that on.

Shake to undo is a nice feature, but adding an undo button would also be helpful. I’ve been using iPad since it was first released and it’s amazing how many features like that even seasoned users may not know about. Thanks Again for taking time to answer my question.

Best of luck on your recruiting efforts! 😏
