If your iPhone 17 Pro Max was stolen, open Find My at https://www.icloud.com/find or use the Find My app on another Apple device.

Immediately:

  • Mark the iPhone as Lost.
  • Do not remove it from your Apple Account, even if someone contacts you claiming to be Apple Support.
  • Never share your Apple ID password, verification code, or device passcode.
  • Contact your mobile carrier to block the SIM/eSIM.
  • Report the theft and last known location to local police.
  • If Find My shows a new location, share it with police instead of confronting anyone yourself.

If someone from India is claiming to be Apple Support, treat it as suspicious. Apple will not ask you to disable Find My or remove the stolen iPhone from your account.

See: If your iPhone or iPad was stolen - Apple Support

Beware of a common phishing scam: You may get a text or email from “Apple” or “Apple Security” (or sometimes “Police”) saying your phone has been found and to click on a link to see its location. This is NEVER from Apple or from law enforcement; it is from the thief or fence to steal your Apple ID and identity. Delete any such message without responding to it. Apple never gets involved in lost or stolen devices→Recognize and avoid social engineering schemes including phishing messages, phony support calls, and other scams

Finally, if you actually could locate it how could that help? Confront the thief? People have been murdered doing that. Ask the police? Unless you live in a very small town police don’t want to get involved with low value thefts that have very little chance of recovery.

Here’s Apple’s advice→Find your lost iPhone or iPad - Apple Support. You will notice it doesn't address stolen device recovery, just how to protect your contents; your chances of getting it back are nil.

Chances are you will never see your phone again. Most stolen phones are never recovered.

But if you had Find My turned on, you can mark the phone as Lost, making the phone much less useful to the thief or to anyone who the thief might try to sell the phone to. Hopefully your phone was locked with a passcode which the thief did not know and could not easily guess; that will be the first line of defense to keep the thief from getting at the data on the phone, until the phone learns that it is Lost, and locks itself up more completely.

You may also want to ask your carrier to blacklist the phone, so that the stolen phone will never get cellular phone, text, or data service from any carrier who honors the blacklist. (This may interfere with the phone's ability to learn that it is Lost or that you have requested a remote Erase, and with the phone's ability to report its own location.)
