Persistent hearing aid connection notification appears after iOS 27 update

Since the update to iOS 27 and 27.0.1, I keep getting a notification that my hearing aids (in their case) are connected. It doesn't look like a normal notification. It's in the area of the dynamic island but not contained within it when the phone is vertical; when horizontal it's off to the side. I've turned off all related notifications and keep getting it randomly. It comes and goes so quickly I haven't been able to get a screen shot. It's very disruptive and would like to know how to get rid of it. Unpairing and starting over doesn't seem to do it.

I spoke to Apple techs and here's what worked for me:

Under Notifications, there are two places to turn off hearing aid notifications

Hearing Aids

Smart3D (for ReSound aids)

I turned off both, and so far it's stopped

If you don't see Hearing Aids under Notifications, you may need to upgrade to 27.2

Seeing Smart-3D connected says the CONTROL pathway is connected and working.

You ALSO want to see that the Audio pathway is connected.

Settings > Accessibility > Hearing devices ...

you should see your hearing devices listed and status showing as "connected". Any other status may require that you re-pair your Hearing Aids directly with the iPhone software to complete the audio path.

<< and wait for an update with a fix. >>

I recommend you not hold your breath waiting.

Unless you have reported your problem to Apple, using one of the methods I posted previously, they don't even know there is a problem. Posting here is not the equivalent of a problem report, any more than posting on reddit. Apple does not have a formal procedure for reviewing these posts.

Based on my having no such issues with my very similar Hearing Aids, this is likely to be a 'sample defect' -- problem that is occurring in only a few samples of an otherwise working product.

I strongly recommend you consult your Hearing Provider. You paid top dollar for 'High touch' services, and you do not seem to be taking advantage of that.

I find after major software updates/upgrades, I often have to re-pair my GN Resound Vivia MFi Hearing Aids with the phone.

But after the iOS27 upgrade, a new version of the Hearing Aid Utility, Smart-3D, was pushed to my phone. This time it required a complex, multi-step re-pairing process. The phone software saw them fine, but the new version of the Utility demanded that complex, multi-stage re-pairing.

I was not attempting to apportion BLAME.

Only to point out I have an almost identical model, and I have no such issues. Then 'go down the list' of things that might go awry.

I was suggesting the place to go where they have a STRONG vested interest in solving this, whoever's problem it might be. And that is the Hearing Aid maker, stopping first at your Hearing Provider.

You can complain to Apple through a number of different methods:

Product Feedback - Apple

you can contact Apple technical support:

Support

You can contact Apple accessibility support:

But quite frankly, I expect Apple support to tell you your Hearing Aids are not an Apple product, and you will need to work with the Product Developer to seek relief.

Update: the notifications were off for 2 days and then started up again. They started up when the hearing aids were in the charging box and not connected.

I got through to a tech again and we tested several scenarios. The "final" answer seems to be that my apple watch and my phone are handing off the hearing aid connection and the notification is given at each hand off.

Why it's passing back and forth the tech couldn't say, just "this is expected behavior when paired to two devices " also "No, you can't unpair from just your watch"

I am not a happy camper and the frustration has been reported but it's probably no one's priority.

Sorry to report back with bad news.

[in my opinion] this is extremely unlikely to be a problem with iOS. if it were an iOS problem, others like me would be having the same problem

I am not having the problem you describe. iOS problems would affect everyone, not just a few.

[In my opinion] you likely have an issue with your Hearing Aids, your charging case, or the power or the cord that runs the charging case, such as power being switched off accidentally or a loose cable connection.

I do recall that the charging case cord provided was remarkably short, and that annoyed me so much I replaced it with a longer cord I bought myself.

I am not trying to dispute anything you have said.

My resound Vivia VI960S-DRWC right and left have encountered ONLY the initial requirement (right after iOS 27 upgrade) that they be re-paired with the new version of the Smart-3D app in a multi-step process. They had to go back into the charger TWICE during that process, under a prompting script provided by the Smart-3D app.

I have not had ANY of the issue you are reporting.

That may mean there is a Hardware problem somewhere.

I recommend you contact your Hearing Provider. If this is as widespread as you suggest, they will need to intervene to provide support for their Users.

That is really interesting, but appears to be a wild guess. And based on the picture shown for connections inside the Smart-3D app, it is not a correct guess. You aren't paired to two devices. You never pair your Hearing Aids to your watch.

This diagram from Smart-3d clearly shows that the watch is a peripheral of the iPhone, and simply does not have a direct connection:
