No alerts on Calendar since updating to Golden Gate

Since I have updated to Golden Gate, the Calendar app is no longer playing alerts on my MBP. I can enter a new event with an alert, on the MBP, which will sync to my phone and play, but not on the MBP. As I organise my life with Calendar alerts this is a major issue for me. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.
