CarPlay disconnects on iPhone 16 Pro after iOS 27 update

I am having disconnect issues with wired CarPlay after update to iOS 27. I have a Honda CRV 2017 and a iPhone 16 pro. Once I updated to iOS 27 CarPlay would start up and I would play music and then it would disconnect. If I unplug and plug in ithe phone might stay connected or it might not. I have forgotten the car and device for the CarPlay connect and reset the Bluetooth connections as prescribed for previous versions of this issue. I have changed wired accessory permission to always. I have changed out the cable and reset the media head on the car. Sometimes it works the first time I connect other times it takes 3 times of unplugging and plugging in to get a steady connection. I cannot believe this is a software issue as it just started after the iOS 27 update. I have also tried to connect in Toyota cars both wirelessly and wired and it connected flawlessly. Perhaps this is just an issue of software and the older model of car I have?

Following up on this. I was able to get 2 other phone 16pro and 17pro on differing ios versions (26 and 27). Both of them connected and played without issue. I also purchased a carlinkit 5.0 (https://carlinkitcarplay.com/products/carlinkit-2air-make-your-wired-carplay-wired-android-auto-to-wireless), to give it a try. I did not see any issues with the adapter until I tried to plug in and charge my phone with the other USB port. I finally decided to Erase All settings and content on my phone and restore from backup. So far all is working fine. Not sure if the update to 27 introduced a configuration setting issue or some other issue happened, but I do appear to be fixed.

Not every issue an individual encounters on their device can be attributed to an iOS update. iOS 27 or later may have coincided with what you are experiencing, but that does not mean the issue was triggered by iOS. Coincidence in timing is not, by itself, evidence of causation.

If the update itself were the root cause, then every device running that same version of iOS would exhibit the identical problem. In such a scenario, the forums would be flooded with countless posts reporting the same malfunction, creating an unmistakable wave of complaints that no one could possibly overlook.

The absence of such widespread reports strongly indicates that the issue is not a general, system-wide problem with iOS 27 or later, but rather something specific to the individual device, its configuration, installed apps, settings, hardware, or another interacting factor.

In short: iOS 27 or later may be a coincidence in timing, but there is no basis to conclude that iOS itself triggered the problem simply because the issue appeared after the update.

If CarPlay doesn't detect your iPhone, make sure CarPlay isn't restricted. Go to Settings > Screen Time > Content & Privacy Restrictions. If Content & Privacy Restrictions are turned on, tap Allowed Apps and make sure CarPlay is enabled. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, tap your car, and then tap Forget This Car.

If you're still having trouble with your car's audio system using CarPlay or Bluetooth, try the Aux cable. To get it fixed, there are two options:

  1. Take your car to a reputable car dealer or car audio specialist. They have experienced technicians who can diagnose the problem with the Aux cable. This could be a loose connection, a faulty cable itself, or an issue with the system's Aux port. They'll be able to repair the issue or recommend a replacement cable if needed.
  2. Consult your car's infotainment system manuals. These manuals often include troubleshooting sections that might address common Aux cable problems. You might find instructions for resetting the system, cleaning the Aux port, or confirming the cable's compatibility.

Before taking your car to a dealer, it's always a good idea to check the manuals first. This can sometimes save you time and money if it's a simple fix you can handle yourself. However, if the manuals don't offer a solution, or you're uncomfortable tinkering with the system, then a car audio specialist is the way to go.
