iPhone 15 Max trade-in value dispute over screen damage

I was notified that my iPhone 15 max trade in has gone from $455 to ZERO because there was screen damage (only showing black screen) when received. I used that phone up to the minute I put it in the return box so there was absolutely no damage to the phone when it was mailed. It didn't even really need to be replaced at all, I just wanted to treat myself to a new iPhone 18. I have requested the phone be sent back to me. Is this happening to others as well? Do I have any recourse if the phone was damaged after it left me with Fed Ex?

There have been a few similar reports but how does that help you other than confirm that there's a small chance of damage occurring in the post? I don't know which country you're in. In the UK a claim could be made against the courier but the situation depends on who paid for the courier and the terms of carriage. If the terms allow and you paid then you could claim against the courier. If Apple paid then only Apple can claim because the contract is between them and the courier. In either case you'd have to have proof that it worked when you shipped it.

I'm with Lobsterghost1 on this - don't mail your stuff in, take it in person.

Sorry, but asking if something has happened to others is Poll Taking and a violation of the terms of use of this forum. You did the right thing asking for the phone to be shipped back to you. Otherwise, there's nothing anyone on this user to user only forum can do to help you, whether it's happened to anyone else or not.

This is why I NEVER send my phone in for trade. I ALWAYS trade my phone at the Apple Store directly, even if the new phone is delivered to me at my home. If you had an Apple Store near you, you could have traded it there yourself.

It certainly is for me. I prefer to have my phones delivered to me. I can then do the data transfer, ensure everything is working as expected. Then wipe the trade and take it to my Apple Store where the trade is assessed and the trade value applied immediately.
