Apple TV app on PlayStation 5 can freeze and becomes unresponsive after most recent update

it does it on my Roku too as well as my PS5 so i assume it’s probably across most platforms

So I tried the AI support assistant, and unsurprisingly, it was completely useless.

It suggested I report a bug, but there is no way to report a bug without joining their beta program or developer services, and they don't even list the PS5 app.

It then suggested I talk to a support person, but I guess since it's the weekend, I couldn't do that, either.

So on Monday I'll try to talk to a person again and report it there, and point them to this thread in hopes of getting this sent to the developers.

Thought I was the only one experience this. Started all of a sudden during the new Spiderman movie. Every 10 minutes or so, the frame freezes for a few seconds and then it resumes. Happens of course on any other Apple content ax well. Tried trouble shooting my connections on console and router. But it happens only on the PS5 Apple TV app. I have cable Gigabit and everything else via ethernet or Wifi works perfectly fine. It's not a huge dealbreaker but still very annoying and needs a fix.

Oh thank god its not just me/my PS5.

Good to learn its a common issue, and limited to PS5...guess ill switch to my family's smart TV for now?

It’s safe to say there’s a memory leak somewhere on the app. I’ve concluded it’s clearly Apple at this point and will be corrected in the future at some point. Happy Halloween everyone.

Okay, glad to see this isn't just happening to me. I haven't had the app close, but it does freeze a few times per episode, and yeah... it started after the update, so I didn't think it was related to my connection.

Yup. Exactly the same symptoms here too; every 10 minutes or less, the show will freeze for a couple of seconds, and it only started happening recently.

Huh, that's interesting. Not sure you could have done anything, because, well, it's a PS5, not a PC. lol

But it was still happening for me last night, so I don't think they fixed anything on the backend.

Same here, after the app update last week. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app but it didn’t fix the issue. Has to be some sort of bug with the app and it’s really annoying. Was working fine before the latest update.

Happens to me as well as of the recent PS5 and Apple app updates. Also happens occasionally on PlutoTV, Tubi, and much less often on Netflix so I’m not so sure it’s Apple only. It’s definitely happening a lot more often on the Apple app. Watching a show or movie is almost unwatchable.

Happening for me as well. Seems to freeze for about 5 seconds every ten minutes or so of video. Every episode of Slow Horse S6. Oddly it does NOT freeze on Britbox shows inside the same app, just AppleTV stuff

I haven’t reported this yet but I’ve definitely only seen it on Apple TV app. It happens every 11-12 minutes. I’ve switched from wired to two different WiFi networks (don’t ask) with no change in behavior. Every 11 to 12 minutes it freezes for a few seconds like clockwork.

Happens for me as well on PS5 Pro. Restarting the system doesn’t appear to help. Seems like a memory leak or something but not sure.
